I grew up in Battle Creek, Michigan, but now I live in Guatemala with my husband also from there. We just finished building a house and on the sandy construction site planted grass. We have a house in the woods at a high elevation and my husband brought soil down to make the ground more even. It got watered everyday. And suddenly there were morels. We said no way, but yes! So maybe I have the first of 2010. — Kathryn

Mesick Michigan Morels - May 29, 2009 - Gord & I had to go back and face the music with our camper. We had left it behind with the “tent worms” last weekend. (Yeah, that was a mistake!!!)

So Friday, the 29th we went back to Mesick.

We went up Friday early in the morning. But as soon as we got there we realized the worms move much slower when it’s chilly. So…….we hit the spots, ended up with a nice bag full of big ole yellers No one was out there, or crazy enough to go out there like us, LOL, but after stalling for a few hours, we went to see the damage. OMG, it was not good. He swept and swept, and we finally got the heck out of there. We gave it one more quick sweep once we got out of the woods, and immediately hit the car wash in Cadillac to see how many more we could get rid of…….. Not too many. Had to hit another car wash once we got back to Kalamazoo, had the camper opened up right in the bay, the maintenance guys were kind of thinking all the worms were cool on the truck…….. til they saw the camper too, and how many worms we were leaving there, they thanked us sarcastically. Anyways, here’s pics of our finds. — Kellie Greene

Iowa Morels - May 19, 2009 - Carroll County, Iowa - May 19, 2009 - Found this large morel near an elm tree. The ground cover thick and well above my knees so I probably missed a few.

Michigan Morels - May 16, 2009 - Found 120 greys, about 8 yellows and 25 blacks at Chandler Hills. Sat. 5-16-09. Alot of people there. The greys and yellows were fresh but most were small. A few of them were 2 to 4 inches tall. The blacks were almost too old. I think we should have waited a few more days or till this coming weekend to head up that far north.

Illinois Morels - May 9, 2009 - N IL - Hands down my best hunt ever! Me ‘n Patrick were pickin’ and grinin’ the whole day. Lots of awesome puker trees and solid patches. Thought I had died and gone to heaven. Thanks again Patrick! 26 pounds!!! Booyah!

Illinois Morels - April 21, 2009 - SW IL - Another great day, I had to go back and was glad I did. Probably my best 2-day hunt ever! Picked these big ones and 150+ more, about 5 pounds, mostly Yellows.

Illinois Morels - April 20, 2009 - SW IL - An awesome day in the woods! Tons of clusters and puker trees. All of the bigfoots came from one tree, I couldn’t believe my eyes! Found a really nice patch of Blacks too. 186 total, 6.5 pounds.

Michigan Morels - May 13 - 17, 2009 - Gord & I went to Mesick on Wednesday, May 13th after work. It had been very dry up there for a while so, we didn’t get our hopes up. We caught about 100 mixed colored on Thursday, it had rained like crazy Wednesday night. (Quite the experience in our popup). We had no more of one color than the other really. Many black, grey, and white ones. Thursday we probably came back with 75 or so. Cooked those babies up with a steak over an open fire, yum!!! Friday and Saturday we might’ve come in with only about 50 or so each day. But Saturday is when we found those congos you see in the pics with my cell phone. Heeeheeeheee = Kellie Greene

Michigan Morels - May 14, 2009 - Jennifer and Travis found these in Augusta, Michigan. We found a big patch of them next to a fence line. A couple of really big ones. A total of 35 blondes, and there is more to be had. Gitty up!

Pennsylvania Morel - May 13, 2009 - I just found this one in Pennsylvania, Near Pittsburgh, it’s starting to die but still HUGE, it’s the biggest one I’ve ever found.I found it today (5/13/09) near a dead elm, I’ve always found the others around crab apple trees. It’s about 11inches tall and 5 inches wide.
