27-1/2 pounds
This is what 27-1/2 pounds looks like. This is what my husband brought home last weekend after three days of nothing but mushroom hunting. It’s hard work, but if you’ve been hunting long enough, it’s possible. It is an amazing sight. - I♥Morels

Michigan Morels - May 15, 2011 - well, it happened. after not learning my lesson years ago- i got that painful lesson once again. if the readers of this site remember, i said i left a bout a hundred or so morels at the “honey hole” last wed to get bigger so they could be picked on sat. i was very nervous, but they were just so small on wed, so i made the call to leave em. as my wife and i were walking to the spot, i could hear talking- but it could’ve been just some people on the trail, right? nope. we walked up on two dudes drinking beer and picking all those morels we left! they were just finishing up raping that spot when we showed up! i cant believe we witnessed that! its one thing to come back after the damage was done, but to actually SEE it was really painful. their bags were FILLED with big blondes. i was devastated. we chatted with them for a few and they left us with the scraps they left behind. they were nice and all but it felt like i witnessed my house being robbed and there was nothing i could do about it. ugh!
well it was a pretty good day overall- the attached pic was the total find for the day. i didnt count them but i would guess a lil over a hundred. when i get the official count, i will post it.
lot of varying sizes of morels, so the season in central oakland county is at its peak right now. TONS of competition so you’ll have to really work. - bung in waterford

Minnesota Morel - May 13, 2011 - From the Three Amigos - Staples, MN - Remember that little “snow morel” from Staples? Well, the little guy has grown to be a handsome young man! Didn’t someone on the board want to know why we left it there….. This is why. He is about 4” high and still growing. He has been growing now for a little over three weeks. I used the morel.com print out for today and a ruler for the background.

We found about 25 more blacks in different areas. Most are 2” – 3”. We also found a patch of yellows growing on a small sandy hill– maybe 10 total and some of those were already drying out.

In our area the bloodroots are almost done blooming, the may apples are starting to bloom, the lilacs have buds but haven’t opened yet, the fiddle head ferns are popping up and as of tonight – no mosquitoes!

Kudos to all of you finders! It is so great to see the photos of the big finds. We hope to follow in your footsteps soon.
