Georgia Morels - April 12, 2009 - These were found in Sugar Hill, GA on Easter Sunday. They were very good with our asparagus and prime rib for Easter dinner, and even got 8 bags in the freezer. Going back for more… many thanks, Bob

Georgia Morels - April 5, 2009

Georgia Morels - April 4, 2009 - Found these four hogs on April 4 in N. Georgia driving about 30 mph. There were a half dozen smaller ones with them and I found maybe fifty others down the road in my usual patch, but these made my day. These are as dense as they are large and weighted 1 lb. 1 oz. — Gary

Georgia Morels - April 2, 2009 — Picked in N. Georgia on April 2, 09. There’s a few over 100, but nice size with several over 6″ after trimming. Largest circumference was 10″. — Gary

Georgia Morels - April 1, 2009 - Me and my roommate went backout today, tried out the same area found about 10 yellows crossed over the creek and found about 100 greys, this spot is amazing, a creek runs through the middle of a marsh and we found all the greys mostly growing under birch trees, these look a lot better than the batch I found last Sunday, I’ve been hunting these shrooms scince I was twelve and I never ever been this lucky in a period of 4 days, found about 400 Sunday and over 100 today, awesome!

Georgia Morels - March 29, 2009 - Just moved down from Chicago, I go hunting every year up there, didn’t even new they grew down here, I was out fishing in the woods near my house down here and they were all over the place, 35 pounds in one area… North Ga

Georgia Morels - Found in Georgia, Clarke County, march 24, 2009 - Hannah

Georgia Morels - March 22, 2009 - Found yesterday, fried today in Georgia. Get you some bunnybread, cut off the crusts to drain the morels on. Cut the crustless bread in half for sandwiches. Cut the morels in half, wash very carefully and throw washwater out in the woods, yard or golfcourse. Then dust lightly with plain white flour, shake very carefully, salt and fry in VEGETABLE oil only. No butter or olive oil! When browned lightly, but not tooo lightly, remove and drain on your crusts to save wasting paper towels and trees. Have a few straight up and have the rest wrapped in bunnybread. - Gary

This morel was picked accidentally when I was cleaning up my outdoor shower and mulching azaleas with the leaves, near April 10 when the season was pretty much over here in Georgia. It came up on top of a handful of leaves which it was growing under.

This is an exceptional year for morels, though where I go the season is two + weeks later than usual. I think it will also be two weeks shorter than usual. I’ve rarely found them in Georgia after April 10. I don’t live in the mountains of North Georgia where the season would be a week to two later. After 60 years of looking for morels I don’t give much information about locations. One GA post was correct though, don’t look in the uplands, go downhill. Stay out of the pines, they don’t grow there. The best sport is finding your own spot. If you’re too lazy to look in new places, you don’t deserve them. “Give me your GPS coordinates.” I like that post. The photos total about 350 morels. The largest was just short of 7″ after trimming. This is the first time I’ve ever found three varieties all up at the same time and fresh. — Gary
