Michigan Morels - May 12, 2010 - These were found under two dead elms that were right next to one another. I would estimate that there were about 150-200 morels under these trees. This pic is only a small section of the whole area, so you can imagine what the scene looked like! It was awesome! Biker Dave, and Dave in Commerce, these were found in central Oakland County on May 12. Quite a few of them had significant slug damage and were not harvested. All were pretty dirty from the recent rains splashing dirt on them but overall, they were in pretty good shape. Total yearly count around 600+. - bung23

Mesick Morels, May 8th - May 12th, 2010 - We found some of all colors; black, grey and yellow/white. I think we found mostly yellow/white during our 5 days. Maybe about 40 really nice ones all together the entire time. We had to walk a long ways to find the ones we did find, we definitely had to work for them. Others whom we talked with in the woods told us that they found next to nothing today and a mere 58 for the week and a half that they had been there :o(

My mom almost lost the nice one she found to my husband as you’ll notice in the picture, LOL!! She made us some morel soup with some of our findings, and oh man was it good :o)

Michigan Morels - May 5, 2010 - These are the largest, thickest, heaviest morels i’ve ever found- and i’ve found some biggins! i cant believe how early in may that it is but its so late in the morel season. my birthday is next week and thats usually prime time for morels- i took some days off to morel hunt- but i think the majority of the morels i will find next week will be decaying. biker dave, i hunt in the general area that you do and if you’re finding decayed ones, they’re decaying by me too. i did find some decaying ones when i found those monsters. i’m tellin ya, that one by the pop can was as big as a grapefruit- and about as heavy too!
no more complaining about sharing info. i dont care what somebody says- theres soooo much land to scour for morels that everyone has the opportunity to fill their bag. i only have one spot where i’ve never found a stem before, and that spot only gives me about a dozen morels a year! i’ve picked about 500 this year- all in areas where i’ve seen evidence of other hunters (stems).

i found 152 today (4-29-10). i have included a pic with todays paper and field shots- just to make everyone happy. dave in commerce- i didnt even get into any briars to find these! if you knew where i got em, you’d kick yourself!
biker dave- dude, i got these just south of where u are, so u should be findin em.
magnet, bro. most of us know the real hunters when they see/read them. i dont doubt your finds at all and i think its totally sweet how many you find.

Mesick Michigan Morels - April 26, 2010 - Aunt & Uncle, Gord & I took an early morning cruise to Mesick to see what we’d find. Found us some nice ones to start off, rather large in size notice the pic with 3 different hands full of blacks. Then Gord hit the jackpot and found the Grand Puba of blacks, you’ll know it when you see it. Found some beefsteaks, caps & greys. We think it was way worth the drive and what a fabulous day :o) - Kellie

Michigan Morels - April 16, 2010 - My mom came in from Iowa/Nebraska on Friday, April 16th, took her to “the bush” and for sure she found her some. I found the first one so she could get her “eyes” for them and she managed about 4-5 more and I even found a few more too, for a total of 8-9 I think.

Hubby and I went to the same spot today(April 20th), however, and found NOTHING!! Extremely dry. NEED RAIN!!! — Kellie Greene

White Wine Cream Sauce with Morel Mushrooms

Melt 3/4 stick of butter and then add a healthy tablespoon of butter Whisk 1/2 cup cream and 1/2 cup white wine in with the mixture.
On low heat, allow to reduce
Sautee morels in butter and combine with sauce
Grate fresh parmesan and asaigo cheeses over your favorite pasta then toss with sauce.

Mesick Michigan Morels - May 29, 2009 - Gord & I had to go back and face the music with our camper. We had left it behind with the “tent worms” last weekend. (Yeah, that was a mistake!!!)

So Friday, the 29th we went back to Mesick.

We went up Friday early in the morning. But as soon as we got there we realized the worms move much slower when it’s chilly. So…….we hit the spots, ended up with a nice bag full of big ole yellers No one was out there, or crazy enough to go out there like us, LOL, but after stalling for a few hours, we went to see the damage. OMG, it was not good. He swept and swept, and we finally got the heck out of there. We gave it one more quick sweep once we got out of the woods, and immediately hit the car wash in Cadillac to see how many more we could get rid of…….. Not too many. Had to hit another car wash once we got back to Kalamazoo, had the camper opened up right in the bay, the maintenance guys were kind of thinking all the worms were cool on the truck…….. til they saw the camper too, and how many worms we were leaving there, they thanked us sarcastically. Michigan Morels - May 16, 2009 - Found 120 greys, about 8 yellows and 25 blacks at Chandler Hills. Sat. 5-16-09. Alot of people there. The greys and yellows were fresh but most were small. A few of them were 2 to 4 inches tall. The blacks were almost too old. I think we should have waited a few more days or till this coming weekend to head up that far north.

Michigan Morels - May 13 - 17, 2009 - Gord & I went to Mesick on Wednesday, May 13th after work. It had been very dry up there for a while so, we didn’t get our hopes up. We caught about 100 mixed colored on Thursday, it had rained like crazy Wednesday night. (Quite the experience in our popup). We had no more of one color than the other really. Many black, grey, and white ones. Thursday we probably came back with 75 or so. Cooked those babies up with a steak over an open fire, yum!!! Friday and Saturday we might’ve come in with only about 50 or so each day. But Saturday is when we found those congos you see in the pics with my cell phone. Heeeheeeheee = Kellie Greene

Michigan Morels - May 14, 2009 - Jennifer and Travis found these in Augusta, Michigan. We found a big patch of them next to a fence line. A couple of really big ones. A total of 35 blondes, and there is more to be had. Gitty up!
