I’d like to post some of my finds from this spectacular season. I’ve never seen morels like this!

4.19.08 - 276 morels - A great day in the ash grove w/ my buddy iPanic2Mark!

David (SW Illinois)

4.22.08 - 300 morels - My best hunt ever, picked these super fresh blacks, half-frees, and greys by myself in the ash grove.

4.26.08 - 354 morels - A slow morning, but it got hot when we switched spots, and the greys and half-frees were in abundance! That’s me on the right, with iPanic2Mark in the middle, his dog Toobah, and his buddy Ted (his first real morel hunt!) in Central IL.

David (SW Illinois)

5.1.08 - 75 morels - Found these during break at work! Most were growing along the banks of a ditch, under large silver maples. That big one on top was over 7″.

David (SW Illinois)

5.3.08 - 150 morels - A morning hunt’s worth found during an awesome camping trip. I went out that evening and found another huge bag full, probably 5+ lbs, mostly under hard maples! I found 85 the day before in just an hour. Over 1000 were found during this 3 day trip between all of us!

David (SW Illinois), signing off for 2008.
1600+ morels found!

Here are some photos of morels that were growing in the gardens at my house in Essex Junction, VT. The photos were taken about a week ago. I picked the shrooms this evening (05/27/08) because they were showing signs of starting to brown. The cool temperatures and rain during the last week or so seem to have extended the season. Hope to get out and search the woodlands in hopes of finding more if the weather remains the same.

Rena Miller from Allendale, Michigan cleaning some of the morels found this spring around Allendale. - Dennis Miller

We went up to Mesick on Friday morning to camp. Found 3 blacks and a big yellow right away, then it was slow going for a while, til we hit the patch we’d been hoping for, we pulled 22 giant yellows off of a northeast facing slope. Saturday we started slowly again, didn’t think we’d find too many and by the late afternoon on that last stop, we peeked in a spot we haven’t been before and found 18 more big ones. So, along with the meeger findings early in the days, we ended up with 78, of which, a dozen or so were some nice blacks and maybe the same amount in fresh grey ones. Not too bad for a two day trip. We might just head back up next weekend. Hope everyone had a safe and wonderful Memorial Day weekend. — Kellie

I finally got around to removing the latticework from the deck. Here’s a picture of my final morel harvest of the year. — David O., Columbus, OH

These are what Scott and I have found so far, there were a few found on the days missing but not enough to show. Counts were low because of the area we looked in. The season here in Mich. is coming to a close soon unless they get some deep soaking rains. — Andy Y. from Dayton, Ohio but in Gaylord, Michigan.

Another “under the deck” giant. This one weighed 9.7 ounces and is almost 1 foot long. — David O.

I’ve been searching for morels throughout the Green Mountains of Vermont and Adirondack Park for the past several weeks but made this find during my lunch-time walk with my pug Bella right here on the University of Vermont campus! There were about a dozen of them-not bad for an urban setting, mostly large and beginning to dry out so I selected only a few that were not in the middle of poison-ivy.

More activity in Penfield, NY, it appears these guys are fond of ash trees!

Found these growing under my deck… there is a true giant as big as a mans forearm still under the deck. These 3 were reached thru the latticework. Peace! - David O.

P.S. I traded these 3 mushrooms for: 2 glasses of $7.50 a glass wine, a $15 spaghetti and meatball dinner, and a $5 salad.
