I am a transplanted Iowan and would love to find some morels I work at a power plant that has lots of timber. Do the morels do well in North Carolina?

I live in Greensboro, NC and was visitng my family in KY last weekend and they found 150 morels. They were so good. I also find them in the NC mountains but haven’t had any luck in the Greensboro area yet. I’m going bike riding this afternoon and I plan to search the hillside. Happy Morel Hunting to Everyone.

Hi! I am from Pioneer Ohio but have a brother in Durham NC who loves morels but has never found any there. How soon should he look there? Is it possible for him get some tips on where to look? We find a bunch in Williams Co. Ohio and Hillsdale Co. Michigan. Only we won’t find any till about the first weekend in May. Can’t wait. I would love to hear from you and pass on the info to Kev.
    Thanks! Happy hunting!

I hear ya margaret..we’re north too, but not as cold as many, just wet - Washington. We had sloppy snow fall yesterday and today. So is the season actually extended in the southern states or is it just earlier?

you lucky dogs in the southern states, it is still too cold in Indiana. But hopefully we will have a good season this year with all the rain. Good luck and happy shrooming!

Please post somewhere DO NOT use plastic bags to carry the mushrooms you find! That’s why you don’t find as many as you did when you were kids! You are not spreading the spores to regrow for next year (spread the love). Use a mesh/nylon bag, like oranges or apples come in.
