The Mushroom Whisperer AKA: LANCASTER| |
March 18, 2010
Heres a tip,
Rocks heat up very fast, soil around rocks heats up faster than in other places. All of the ones in this picture were found March 17th 2010 less than 10 feet away from an out cropping of limestone.
Remember rocky soil warms up MUCH FASTER. This is the secret to early finds.
That and elevation.

WOW! Great find! I just started to look on the ground while walking in the woods last weekend. Thought it was too early. Guess not. We had a good, warm, sunny week last week. Can’t wait to find some!
    Good luck everyone!

It should be noted that the limestone plays a big part here. Bigger than elevation in my opinion. Don’t spend much time hunting around acid soil. Neutral or sweet soil is better.

Hey Lancaster, Thanks for the tips. elevation huh? does that mean the HIGHER the elevation, the better or the LOWER the elevation, the better?
