Tim B: A false morel is usually a rusty color and once you see one you will know why it will not be confused with the edible wonderful morel, black, grey or yellow. The gnarly-looking one is an edible morel. Don’t let the shape fool you. Go to your county extension office and you will find a pamphlet on edible mushrooms.

That gnarly-looking one looks like a false morel. When you cut it open, did it have more than one chamber inside? If it did, it’s a false morel. I’m not sure if I would eat one. You may want to research the False Morel a little bit..
