We don’t know much about morel hunting except you must get out there and walk to find them. We don’t know if we should go every other evening after work or wait until it rains again which won’t be for a week at least. The ground at the lake all over in the shady area is moist under the leaves and grass, I think they will continue to be growing without the rain. Should we be diligent and look evey other evening to get as many as possible before they quit producing?
Hi, Me and my husband Mike are from Mankato in Jewell County. We started looking for morels for the past two weeks and did not hit the jackpot until last week on the south side of Lovewell lake. I beleive they are growing anywhere you decide to look. In that area we found over 150 in just a couple of nights walking two hours each night. Then we get the great idea to hunt the north side of the lake last night and in four hours we must have found over two hundred, we could not stop finding them. Some were dried up and we left them. They all had needed to be picked a couple of days ago, but we found plenty still shaded and in great shape. Most of them were big ones. Just wanted to post our morel story. Last spring we found only like 17 mushrooms due to the dry winter and spring for two years. We had searched the north side of Lovewell last year for days and hours without finding one mushroom. It was very exciting to actually find morels in abundance. You just need to get out and walk to find them.
