morels grow in woody, shady areas. They come up from the ground. It doesn’t sound like what you have are morels.

Does anyone have a picture of the thing the morels grow in. I found what I think from the looks here a morel mushroom but the little container that it came out of is like an egg in looks and is full of ucky stuff on the inside. The first time I saw one I thought it was an egg from something. Does any of this make any sense to anyone? These things are growing in my yard and I am very concerned what they are.

My very best friend just dropped off a shopping bag of morels. Of course, this is a treasure beyond words, and for a mushroom picker all these these years, I have never seen a “real” morel in my life.
Can you advise me what I could do to preserve these treasures for the months to come. Should I dry them, (how) and would freezing them be the best way to preserve them? Should I boil them firist, before freezing them for future use?

the morels have not been plentiful north of petoskey, but have heard some south of petoskey recently. It poured rain last night most of emmet county. so we are hitting the woods hard now!

Just picked about two lbs. of goldens in Saginaw. Just fry them up with butter and you will think your tastebuds have gone to heaven!!!

Yes, the mushrooms are out. I recommend Chandler Hill Road just north of Boyne Falls, out towards Atlanta on M-32 on and off of Meridian Line Road, or the N/E of the Pigeon River Forest, Tin Shanty area.

You find them all in the Waterford area? Lived here fir 7-8 years and always empty handed! Looked this year again and got lucky, but only found a dozen or so. Hubby is up north now, but my son was bummed he had to stay back. I am supposed to bring him out looking here but I am convinced it’s all on private land!
