North Carolina - May 2, 2010 - Went out Sunday to our favorite spot north of Asheville and found about 80 – 90 yellows with one or two blacks and one grey. Poplar trees, creek bottoms – same spot we found 61 last week. Tried another spot close by on a hunch and found the biggest morels we’ve ever found in WNC – a couple the size of a soda can. Best day we’ve ever had. Ended up with 154 morels. Dug a few ramps for good measure. - Jeff and Pam

“Only native to Appalachia.”
im fairly certain they range from Appalachia to Canada. we have them here in minnesota. adam they are a type of leek with big green leaves found in the forest floor around usa you can easily identify them by there garlicky smell google some pictures.
Hey Jeff,
Nice haul!
I found two closer to Asheville this week.
When do you think the season is “over”. The rain came late this year. Is it too late to look now?
Thanks.

Just looked up what a ramp was. I had never heard of one. I also read where some kids eat so many teachers won’t allow some of them back into the class room. Is this really true? My sister lives in Wilmington. Have been to Ashville…beautiful area. Congrats on your find. Our season is over here in Illinois. So sad!
Congratulations from Switzerland! I am jealous!
Peace meattel
Good job man!!! We have a place in Virginia, on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the last weekend of April, we found over 500. It also took us 4 hours but this is the best!!!!
Wild onions basically. A member of the leek family. Only native to Appalachia.
Hey Jeff- Nice haul!! I live in Waynesville, and it seems like the weather has just been off timed this year. warm but dry, then wet but cold. You can bring the ramps and morels down this way anytime! Peace- John
