Looks like it runs into Taneycomo....could be good??Don't sound like you're too fond of them Velvet Foots.Sounds like a good day...out in this weather and the sunshine and all,I'd prob. still be standin on that rockpile,LOL!

its ahhhh......Bear creek....I think it runs towards forsyth...I think

Located betwixed Ozark and Branson....at Busiek state park....
and them rocks are clean enough to eat off of....cause a biggass flood just re-arranged them all ....and it did a good job
I think you could or would like it if you were here .....no shrooms though

Jason,I see the pinheads, you need to cut a hole and let those little doods out,Ha Ha.No realy they look like they want out????(what would I know). In the pic the Oysters you're growing look pretty big?Yeah,if that rock pile was showin some good flakes I definately could spend some time there. That does kinda look like a Cottonwood, did you get a look at the leaves around it?Speakin of leaves, those rocks were clean,is that a tributary of the James river??I'm headed your way right now(I wish)!Oh I'll bring ya a bag of Oysters too(why not)!

KC...hell ya I am eatin them tiny little shrooms....I forgot to put a water bottle next to em.....like you did with your dead deer...haha...you are funny.
they are just little baby shrooms.....If I would trim some off from the get go............I would get bigger ones

look close on my bottom pick....you can see tons of tiny white sideways pinheads behind the plastic..

Carpenter in kc,I'm not sure where you live In Grandview but if you go West to the Blue River and go to the bottoms and look for dead standing and downed Willow and Cottonwood Tree's you will surely find Oyster Mushrooms. They are the only White gilled group-fruiting shrooms around right now!If there is any question,do a spore print and it will be white. As far as books go just buy one....you will prob. buy more than one eventually. The Mushrooms Demystified is a good one but there are lots of good books out there. Also you could go to James A. Reed and look for Willows around their ponds.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to which mushroom field guide to get? I am noticing there are quite a few and I would like to focus on the mushrooms that are indigenous to this area? Any thoughts would be appriciated!

Hey guys,I just got in......yeah Jason I did see Andrew eating mushrooms on the AT. I also saw a series on the AT,,,as you prob. know it spans 13 states! It was a very cool program.Yep,I saw one of them 8-point Oyster eaters whilst Oyster Picking,he was laying on his side w/cloudy eyes....got a pic and lots of Oyster picks to post tomorrow!Kccarpender....you must have found a polypore of some kind....prob. a Artists Conk is one guess, but don't give up they're out there for the picking.Jason, that barkless tree that put out the small buttons last week refruited like a Bastard Rat!!!!Good luck Morelin...hope you find some good ones!!

well thanx morelin!!

its a good thing I got into growin them I guess....heres why

I have been huntin the oyster bottoms for 10 years (i think)
....and now....all the sudden....the darn deer have learned how to pick em too.
I wondered why I did not see hardly any last year.....I think them deer have been watchin me or something....these are city deer and wont get shot (unfortunately)
I just got back from my happy spot....and had zero shrooms in my bag to show for it!!!

Hey all I haven't posted since morel season but was wondering if someone could help me. I have never hunted oysters but I found a large stump covered in what I believe are oysters, they look just like the picture KCR&M posted on the 13th with the water bottle. The bottom is coral or sponge like rather than gill like. Think I have oyster's? if so whats the best way to prepare them.

Sure KCR&M I'll do my best...I have to work this morning but after that I'll try and do the all you can pick Oyster challenge if there is time....I hope everyone is getting their fill this year. Yeah James sometimes a log just doesn't cooperate but there are many logs in the forest. At least this time of year one can see the forest through the trees!!! Some friends up the road had collected some monster flapjacks in western Kansas a couple days ago to go with some pheasant...I was impressed....Happy Hunting!!!!
