I’m going to be out in my lil patch of woods today, and I’m going to be looking up more often!!! I keep forgetting about the trees and other things to look for, like the bark shedding and the redbuds, etc… I look down the whole time, an seldom I will look where I’m actually going, I keep walking right up on snakes, dangerous holes in the ground, edges, etc, so I want to give a shout out to God of THANKS for always protecting me, even when I’m not paying attention like I ought to be. I also want to thank God for the serenity, beauty, peace, closeness to God that we get from walking in His handcrafted marvels that we know as the woods, or forest. I have been so very depressed, going thru some things I just don’t understand, but walking thru the woods I have a peace that passes my understanding. I’m going to sing in the woods to The Lord this morning… God bless you and yours, happy & safe hunting to you all!

Found 2 greys today (3/19). This pic is a 2″ grey knocked off its stem. The other was only 1″ and very fresh. Left that one to grow.

Found a third baby grey today. All 3 of my early finds from today and yesterday where on a definite south to southwest facing and fairly steep slopes. These are early lies within my hot spots. For my areas near Bham this nice hot week and rain coming Friday night the main harvest should be March 25 – April 5. Found several hundred both 2014 and 2015; then last year (2016) only 12 morels.. Will know a few days after the rain which way things are turning for my areas. Good luck hunting to all.

Will give all my areas a good check Thurs (3/23) to see what the heat has made fruit. Bringing the expert with me, who has hunted morels since the late 1940s (my dad). My guess is some will be up; but the big action if we get any this season will be all next week after a good Saturday/Sunday rain. Any other news from the rest of yall here in Alabama.

Found 11 morels since Sunday(3/19). Mostly 1-2 inch range fresh and grey. Many areas not producing yet. Rain over this weekend is key; they will either come on and we ll have a decent season, or if they just sputter around next week after good rains it wont be a good sign. Going back out Mon/Tues after the rains. Good luck hunting out there.

If the morels are in limestone co, they should be in Morgan county too, don’t y’all think so? I don’t know how you guys are able to load pics on here, I have not got any morels yet, but other pics of cool looking fungi I like to take pics of, I would load some but can’t, and when I find sponges and can’t list pics, that’ll suck a lil. Anyway, happy & safe hunting to all!
