I've been finding chanterelles and trumpets for about a week now in NWCT. I'll hit the forest good tomorrow and hopefully bring home a nice sackful. Any other CT shroomers out there?
Went out for a bit to scout some new areas. Found trumpets and some cantharellus cibarius. It's so exciting finding trumpets in a new spot. Brought home enough for a meal or two but the season is just kicking off. I didn't collect the amanita, just learning the characteristics.
Damn it's looking like I'm the only one here. It's ok, the woods out here are loaded. I need to remind myself to take more pictures. Once the picking starts it's hard to look at a phone screen. Tons of cantharellus minor and craterellus ignicolor but I don't even bother picking them.
I'll grab some tomorrow, they are just so tiny it would take a few dozen to make a meal. I pick every cantharellus cibarius and cantharellus cinnabarinus I see, those are meaty enough to justify cleaning and bringing home, to me at least.
Man I've gotta try that recipe or a variation of it. Here is some cantharellus lateritius I found today at work but unfortunately they were inedible. Their location was 100 feet away from a golf course where they spray all types of nasty pesticides.
Man I love hunting black trumpets. They can be hard to spot but they are delicious. So far I've picked about 2lbs, hopefully we get some decent rainfall and it is a fruitful next few weeks. I thought the coloration on some of these was cool, reminds me of a calico cat.
I am quite new to foraging outside of morels, chicken and hens. I am curious to what these might be? Any help would be great. I found a spot today that has at least 15 different types of mushrooms growing in about a 3 acre clump of woods.
Honestly I usually don't find then around pine. There was just a pair trailside in a large stand of beech trees that dropped those needles. If you check out the background it's mostly beech. I have Good luck around oaks as well.
Went out to check some golden chant spots this morning and barely anything was fruiting. Past years they have put off massive amounts but this year only a few and far between. Moisture seems right, trumpets are fruiting by the masses only a stones throw away. Hopefully I can pin down some new spots to get my fill. Found some amanita jacksonii but they were a bit past. I might give them a shot this year if I find a prime specimen. Also some clavaria zollingeri which looked really cool.

Pulled a few pounds in the last couple of days. Still not much for golden chants though, only enough for a few meals here and there. You guys have any good trumpet recipes? I always played it safe but with them fruiting so plentifully I want to experiment a bit.
A new first for me today, craterellus foetidus (fragrant black trumpet). They are quite a bit meatier than craterellus fallax and supposedly even stronger in flavor, they certainly have a stronger smell. I'll have to head out soon to check for more, didn't have much time to root around today. Also some moose scat which I rarely see around here, this area was loaded with it.
Slim pickings out here today. Was my lightest basket of the year (including morel season). There were some babies popping up so there is still some hope if the weather cooperates.
Not much time to go out lately but was surprised to come across these honeys this morning. Usually I don't find them for a few weeks. I personally don't care for them, tried cooking a few different ways but nothing really impressed me. The aborted entalomas are good when tempura battered and fried though.
Are trumpets surging again, or have you been finding them in large numbers since July? For past couple weeks, I've been finding only a handful each time I go out... and the golden chanterelles are still booming, but oh so buggy. Started seeing honey clusters yesterday and found my first Maitake of the season.

Hey- nwct is my hunting grounds, too, and other than a few morel hunters and some yahoos hacking away at l. sulphureus, I feel like I'm the only one out here! Loved the trumpet boom in July, and the first golden chanterelles of the season were amazing...

Mushrooms belong to themselves & their fruit to the picker. What do you do with 30 lbs of chicken? I haven't yet found a delicious l. sulphureus - if I take 'em, I sell them. But l. cincinnattus makes my top 5 list. . .
I cook up as much as possible and give a lot to friends who are vegan/vegetarian. The rest gets vac sealed and frozen fresh. Cinncinattus is delicious as well, always nice and tender. Huge puffball, I love making puffball parm.
I so wish that there was a mushroom preserving and cooking class I could take. Some mushrooms are pretty hard to do wrong (but I could probably still do them better...)While my hunting & id skills still have plenty of room for growth, they've far outstripped my mushroom-cooking skills. Shaggy caps, puffballs, oysters, blewits, l. Sulphureus... it's hard to know if they're just ~meh~ or if it's me
