I've been finding chanterelles and trumpets for about a week now in NWCT. I'll hit the forest good tomorrow and hopefully bring home a nice sackful. Any other CT shroomers out there?

Went out to check some golden chant spots this morning and barely anything was fruiting. Past years they have put off massive amounts but this year only a few and far between. Moisture seems right, trumpets are fruiting by the masses only a stones throw away. Hopefully I can pin down some new spots to get my fill. Found some amanita jacksonii but they were a bit past. I might give them a shot this year if I find a prime specimen. Also some clavaria zollingeri which looked really cool.

A new first for me today, craterellus foetidus (fragrant black trumpet). They are quite a bit meatier than craterellus fallax and supposedly even stronger in flavor, they certainly have a stronger smell. I'll have to head out soon to check for more, didn't have much time to root around today. Also some moose scat which I rarely see around here, this area was loaded with it.

Not much time to go out lately but was surprised to come across these honeys this morning. Usually I don't find them for a few weeks. I personally don't care for them, tried cooking a few different ways but nothing really impressed me. The aborted entalomas are good when tempura battered and fried though.

Are trumpets surging again, or have you been finding them in large numbers since July? For past couple weeks, I've been finding only a handful each time I go out... and the golden chanterelles are still booming, but oh so buggy. Started seeing honey clusters yesterday and found my first Maitake of the season.

Hey- nwct is my hunting grounds, too, and other than a few morel hunters and some yahoos hacking away at l. sulphureus, I feel like I'm the only one out here! Loved the trumpet boom in July, and the first golden chanterelles of the season were amazing...

I so wish that there was a mushroom preserving and cooking class I could take. Some mushrooms are pretty hard to do wrong (but I could probably still do them better...)While my hunting & id skills still have plenty of room for growth, they've far outstripped my mushroom-cooking skills. Shaggy caps, puffballs, oysters, blewits, l. Sulphureus... it's hard to know if they're just ~meh~ or if it's me
