Look foward to finding them. Will post pictures if i do. My father came from europe and two most popular mushrooms he picked there were chanterelles and porcini(king boletus.) he claims chanterelles taste better. Hoping to find out this year.

Chicken of the woods are out in the Louisville, KY area, at least in my front yard! Picked @ 2 lbs earlier this week. They were still fresh but showing a slight sign of drying.

For chanterelles, find large oaks and beech trees and you will find them.

Thanks for that tip. I'm in NE Ohio and chants are on my hit list since I've never found a single one! Found a ton of different kinds of shrooms since I dipped my toe in the morel water, but never a chant!

Also on the hunt for the ever elusive King! At the right time of year with the right conditions you can't swing a dead cat in the woods around here and not hit a bolete!
It's such a huge family that I've never felt confident enough in an ID to try to eat any of them!

I agree. I have a spot with TONS of bi-color boletes. But the whole blue staining bolete myth really throws me off. Found a bunch of velvet tops too, but it's hard to make that jump into a species that a ton of people celebrate.

Morels, chanterelles, herciums, oysters, chickens, hens... all pretty safe.

Found a bunch of gorgeous boletes just off a golf course a few years ago. I picked one to get a spore print, but the slightest touch would stain it as blue as India ink! After one more hole, I threw it out!

Went into the woods in Brown County hoping to find some Chicken. Found Lion's Mane instead!
