OK, now we are mostly done with morels here in our area I'm starting this discussion about another favorite mushroom of mine. With our warmer weather, Chanterelles should be coming up soon. Much easier mushroom to see that the morel. Good luck hunting these this year. Should be a decent year seeing all the spring rains we have had lately.

Texas forum is as dry as it is outside, understandably!
Anyone having luck with chants this year? We’re moving from Austin area to northern Houston area (Spring) next week, and I believe it appears there’s been decent rain this year in the area. Any general tips or locations to try out? I have experience hunting Colorado morels and boletes but never even seen or tasted a chanterelle and excited for the opportunity to be closer to their range.

Worst season ever. Didn't find even one. Very dry spring and summer. Getting a decent amount of rain this year so hoping to see morels in late Feb in 2023.

From your lips to the morel god's ears! Though not as bad as your season, I only found one really decent flush last season, but was good enough for me to give some away to a couple of friends. I still have some dehydrated. I went out repeatedly and found exactly one more morel! It's been a fairly dry winter up here, but there's still time. March and April are kinda sorta our rainy times.

The morel season was good for me but was very short. Chanterelles were horrible. Not one. I only looked a few times but we had a bad drought in 2022, starting in the spring through all summer. Getting plenty of rain now so hopefully morels will be good as well as chants.
