Very quiet Ct. board. Been waiting to see if anyone wants to spill the beans. I guess I will be first....not saying the 1st to find a morel...just the first to report. Have been in NY for the last couple weeks and they are most definitely up there. Had a few decent days of 40 plus morels. Made my 1st trip in Ct. today and found 33 good sized mushrooms. After that little heat wave the weather is cooperating nicely. Get out there everybody and good luck.

Quick after work trip. Found exactly 40. Was surprised by the size of some of the shrooms. Also was surprised by the spot. Never seen them come up in April in this particular area. Glad I went. Lots of rain all day tomorrow. Not sure when I will get out again....hope somebody in Ct. gets em. It is totally happening.

This is awesome!!! I'm still hunting for my first morel find and was starting to get discouraged, but good to know they're in CT. Have you had more luck with a particular tree association? I've mainly been looking around tulip trees.

Hey Frivan. In Ct. I mainly look around Ash. As you know we have lost most of our Ash trees but they still come up around dead or dying ones. Tulips are a target as well. If you see an Elm or an Apple tree definitely investigate. Elms have produced my biggest finds....especially in NY. Looks like the rain today isn't as heavy as 1st thought. Getting in the woods might be a great idea. Let us know how you do. By us....I guess I mean me since this Ct. thread is crickets! Good luck out there.

Thanks for the tips! I won’t be able to get out again until Wednesday but hopefully all this rain keeps them coming up.
Went a little too high into NY today. Found a few but it was just not "happening". Bit off more than I could chew for sure! Doesn't hurt checking! Hit a couple other NY spots on my way back down and found a little more. Mostly Grays. Happy it wasn't a wasted day. 53 total. Got the information I needed....hoping I can get back out soon.

Just joined, I have the fever!! Been foraging for a few yrs, found my one & only morel last yr. I've been out several times so far & nothing yet. Old apple orchard, ash etc. Not sure I have the right terrain down. I will be out this week. Goodluck to everyone.

Hey clutch, couple questions for you. I’m located in NWCT and I haven’t found any morels for years. All my spots that produced pretty generous flushes are now dried up since the Ash trees they once grew with are long dead… I’ve never found one with a dead ash, only dying. Do you usually have luck finding them with long dead Ash? I might find the occasional verpa or half-free growing with a cottonwood, but even those have been tough for me to find lately. Do you find it true that they generally grow in more Alkaline soil? I heard the limestone deposits up this way are conducive to their growth. I have noticed I haven’t found them in areas with abundant fern growth, even if there was ash trees near by. I’ve been out scouring for days now and nada. All I gotta say is screw EAB. Thanks in advance!

Hi NonServiam. You are definitely in a good morel area. The limestone deposits are a big plus. They run up through NY as well. As for the Ash trees...dead, dying and of course alive...I find them around all three. Not sure what the future holds though. Getting tougher to even get through the woods with all the fallen Ash. Look for Tulips. Elm if You can find it. And no...generally I do not find morel in ferns but I have found them " near" ferns. This upper level low weather pattern bringing all the cool wet weather is finally leaving us in a couple. You are set up nice to find a bunch!

Good luck Cthunter! It is still early. Keep doing the same thing. Just have to put the time in. It's a sweaty, dirty, sometimes bloody hobby (job for some) but it is so rewarding in the end. Hope to see some pics soon.

Was out today for several hrs. Found a huge stand of dead ash but no morels. Bloody yes, briars are thick. The soil temp is at 50. I don't think we're getting warm enough yet in the day.
Idk, not giving up. Thanks

People say morels are found with Sycamores. I always, always check. Getting sick of checking!! Not once have I found a morel associated with a Sycamore. Not saying they aren't found with Sycamores...but in my experience I have yet to see one. It would be great to see one since a couple spots I know have plenty of Syc's. No shroomin here til this weekend. Good luck everyone.

Did ok today. Found 51. Found 27 yesterday on an after work trip. Hoping this season lasts a little longer. Can't believe I'm saying that on May 6th! So weird to be finding big yellows this early. And some spots were complete duds but I guess thats to be expected. Just can't connect the dots. To make it worse I may not be in the woods until after Mothers Day! It was a quick year but a good year for me. Go get em everybody! They are out there. Good
