Howdy Everyone
Wade here 🤠
I've been kinda watching weather in Illinois for a couple of months now...and as I recall Yall have been getting a good State wide Rain at least Every other week...🌧
So How are Yall feeling bout it,
🍄 Do you think you are good on your rain
🍄 Hopefully I will be able to drive over and do some Illinois Hunting this time..
🍄Love The Hunt🍄
I think we've been good on our rain overall, especially over the last couple of weeks. Something of an early spring here in northern Illinois, but next week is going to be slightly below normal temps. I think how much rain we get in early-mid April is the deciding factor, too soon to tell.
There was an unconfirmed report today in Perry County: Illinois Morels | Facebook
Perry Country is known for it's strip pits which seem to produce early, loose rock that heats up more quickly is my guess. Other reports include southern Missouri and Tennessee.

@wade heres a teaser for ya morel bacon tomatoes onion and lettuce sandwich they are almost a year old and taste like I just picked them yesterday 👍 so ready
I've seen morels pop way early in the "strip" pits with lots of gravel or shale. We would be finding babies in the tree line and FULL grown mature shrooms amongst bricks and moss first week of April. Now we go there first a good week early and it's wild! They always keep popping more and more unlike most areas with a typical bloom.
Howdy @Tool fan and Everyone...
Wade here... When do you intend to begin Hunting?..
I don't think I will get in the Woods until April 10th at earliest... that could mean I'm missing out on South-central Indiana Blacks..
But I've got to finish my Work at home before I get out there 🙃
It's official, Happy Spring everyone! Some more finds in the Carbondale area, fresh black morels. Southern Illinois appears to have had a "false start" to the season the other week, which some would say is not a good thing, time will tell. I took a hike this afternoon in northern Illinois, our early start to spring appears to have evened out, as things look pretty average for late March around here, but I think that will change fairly quickly with average temps and more rains predicted. With the "average" northern Illinois start date around April 20th, we're now in pre-season. Plenty of moisture so far, April is when I start getting nervous...
That's always the tell tale sign. When every one gets quiet.... It's time. Shhhhhhhh The urge to go out and find babies is huge but let's not step on them.
Went out in Madison county yesterday. Did not find any mushrooms in my early spots. Trillium and mayapples starting to come up. I feel like I should find some by next week.
Now I think this cooler weather has pushed us back to a normal season but we will see... I won't count on that and I will make sure to go to my early spots when they could produce. Remember folks the best times to find morels is when they are big enough to see.
I have one spot that is my go to every year there’s a giant hole in the canopy always a week or so before it really gets going but I would say we have a few weeks here at least here’s a quick look at fb map
I just love it that people think that not talking about it is some kind of way to hide things because a person like me always looks for patterns and that's a pattern. Thanks for letting me know guys😝
