๐Ÿค  This Will Be My 57th Season of Hunting the Same Areas that My Dad first Carried Me into..when I was only 2 yrs old in 1965
I'm Not Studied up on all the New Sience that is Available in Our Age of Online..
I Just "Love the Hunt" and I Still Find Morels Almost every time I go, sometimes a few Sometimes a lot.. it is very Exciting to find a bunch like 50, 100 or 300..
But I believe we will all agree ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป ๐Ÿ’ฏ
It's the "Love of the Hunt" and just being in the woods is Always Our Heart โค
๐Ÿค  I hope this year as we all find Our way on down the trail together on Here..
That we will make time to take some Pictures of Cool, interesting things we see along the Way,
Maybe like a beautiful sunrise as you begin your hunt in the morning.. then pics of Morels Growing...
and when you find yourself looking face to face with a perfect Example for a ๐ŸŒณ Tree Identification ๐ŸŒณ please take some pictures and share them with All of us...
๐ŸŒฒ and just as well if you find a Tree you are Not Sure of ..share some good pics of it and we can All help to identify what it is.๐ŸŒฒ
๐Ÿ„ Also when Our Morels are done, STAY IN THE WOODS..We will Continue finding Many Other types of Edible Fungi ๐Ÿ„ all Summer and Fall into Winter ....
Ok โค Thank You Everyone ๐Ÿ˜Š
Let's get on down thru the Woods together and check in here often as You Can..
See ya soon

Even though we had days every week of Early warm weather..it still had not made any Noticeable difference, to any Early Popp'n of Morels in This Earliest spot I Hunt..We did find Only 3 small Morels 2 still hiddenn, just beginning at their normal Popp'n time.. this pic also shows a small Elm tree with bark falling off..I find around trees like this Often.

Been pretty busy with life lately. Hadnโ€™t did much foraging yet. I Did get out and harvest some meat though. Wonโ€™t be able to drive too far north to search for morels but I see a trip to central Mississippi on the horizon. May the mushroom gods be with each and everyone of you fungible folks View attachment 44542

The cluster of white ones is oysters.
The weird pink/purple one is reishi
The big one in my hand is a turnip footed amanita
The white one inside the tree hollow is lions mane
The dark one with orange bottom is chaga

The Amanita is not edible but all others are. Lions mane is a choice edible. Reishi and chaga are both medicinal.

Iโ€™m no expert, these are just the few that I can positively identify. Trying to figure out what youโ€™ve found is all part of the fun.
Yeah.. Thanks for Confirming those, and with those great pics..it will help us all for Reference..
I want a start going out more in Summer and Fall..but I've Always been working daylight to dark those Months..
And I Really need to start dosing/ eating lots of medical Fungi..yes I do

I guess I should have said how many of us just have loose random dried mushrooms sitting around the house as decorations. Not sayin those aren't mighty pretty... I just didn't say what I meant.
Oh..ok.. I've noticed i am a little slow at times, but so far it just seems to have kept me out if trouble in my Life ๐Ÿค

Wade - The perspective makes it look like the brook/creek is just uphill from the cabin.

Maybe that's what is meant by 'it has running water in it'!! Ha.

Of course that didn't stop me from helping to build this cabin below, just 30 feet from an annually flooding creek!!

We just jacked it up on stilts and let the creek flood underneath the cabin each year. Come to think of it . . . I could'a gone fishing from the back deck!! Ha!

The Oklahoma page is always action packed!
Half my Family is from that Southeastern Oklahoma area..
Not much Reporting of Morels there, but I would like to Visit there, and then continue on further towards Oklahoma City, for Morels Hunting and Finding..
But ..Man it's a long Drive from here, Indiana

Wishing everyone a productive 2023 season. Hope 2023 is better than last year here in Virginia. At least the rainy summer gave us a lot of chickens. View attachment 44560
Howdy @barndog ... Morels were also surprisingly harder to find for Many of Us thru-out Indiana last year.. We still enjoyed our Hunting and found some.. but not in any huge flushing amounts..
I hope to get in the woods more for summer Fungi this year...cause I do love Chickens

Hey Wade . . .here's yesterday's lunch - my last Chanterelle soup, frozen last summer.

Brightened with a Lemon Wedge, sprinkle of dried Dill and a dollop of Sour Cream, this reminded me of how much I liked the recipe I used last summer.
Black Bean/Quinoa chips with Garlic/Herb Boursen's cheese was a nice textural and flavor contrast.

So . . . while yummmm-ing my lunch delight, I contemplated what to do with my last dried MORELS. ? ? ?

Any suggestions, anyone? ๐Ÿ˜Ž ๐ŸŒž ๐ŸŒ
You sure do, Fix up a Fancy soup...
For Morels i think my favorite will always be the flour and skillet fry, that's the old original way I had them when I was just a boy, and I'm always longing for that flavor again.
