Think I'll slip back out to where I left that little black and see if it grew any and if any more popped up . If it's still there....
๐งโจ๏ธ๐ข๐VERY VERY VERYNot much has changed out there so not much to report. Did see a couple new wild plants popping up. Was surprised there was no growth or color change in it. Nice walk no less. Will check again after the next rain and the sun pops out. View attachment 45097 View attachment 45098 View attachment 45099
Getting ready to make a batch of your balm. Hope this avocado oil will work as a carrier. Going to use the boiling water method because i procrastinated too long this winter. Will need it soon. If anyone is interested it's on page 64 of last years post. Thanks again! Not much happening up here in NWI. A bit of green and new chutes, but few berries/seeds. We have a couple sub-freezing nights ahead of us over the next week. Once they pass, it's smooth sailing if the monthly forecasts are somewhat close. Still think we'll start a little early.
Made up a couple batches of lemon balm...bring on the poison ivy!

Hard to believe that those blacks will come up in 40*! You must be on the same parallel as me. I'm on the Mi.- In. state line and my lake temp. is the same. I usually wouldn't even think to look this early but I have a spot that produces blacks around tulip poplar. Is that a dark black sandy loam where your finding? Next weeks weather is finally looking better!!!(Northern ohio) Went out today expecting to find nothing and thatโs exactly what I did๐. My first ever March Morel! Usually find them first week of April in this spot. First found 7 blacks last year 4-10-22. Picked 8 today 3-26-23. So about two weeks ahead of schedule. Ground temps 39-41. Seen over 20 will go back in few days to round up some more. Picked these 8 for a meal. Mayapples barely up 1โ or less. Ramps 3-4โ at most. Woods hardly greened up at all. It begins! I'm close to the state line as well. In these types of years, my father would be out already, and many times would find some. He would hunt where the soil has more sand in mix,, closer to the lake. I've found blacks in the low 40s before, but I've never had the early success that he had. A lot of his spots are restricted now, and others I don't remember.Hard to believe that those blacks will come up in 40*! You must be on the same parallel as me. I find them every year in that soil temp in that spot like clockwork. Once it hits 38 degrees blacks will fruit in my findings. After ground temps hit 48 degrees I donโt see new fruitings of blacks. After temps hit 45 degrees I start seeing the dog peckers and greys and at 50 I see the yellows popping until about 58-60 degrees. After that soil is too warm and they burn up and no new fruitings. If you look back at prior years I have temp pics in those as well. Yes itโs sandy moist soil and to give general parallel I hunt between the interstate 80/90 and state route 2 corridor. Iโm within 15 minutes of Lake Erie cedar point area in north central ohio. I also find mine around tulip poplars. Hereโs a picture of the soil where I hunt them. To give an idea of the ground itโs one of those places when you walk you kind of sink with every step. 3 barges broke free on the Ohio River in Louisville and are partially submerged, while carrying methanol. Could be trouble for the area if the toxins get out.

Thank You @scottyg11 ..Headed out there in the morning. Should i be looking for certain sites for Blacks? I think Iโve only ever found a single one outside of Shoals. Always appreciative and will report findings over the next 2 days.
There's a survey that comes out every year, asking respondents to list what they value the most. The number one response this year? MONEY. It ranked higher than family, friends, religion, health, social participation...everything! Until that changes, this country is only going lower. We need to reject corporate culture and the finacialization of all we see.๐ฅIF....Sh*t .. that sounds bad Man.
