Hello fellow Michiganders and visitors from other states!
Looks like its getting to be about that time.

I know our board is a little more secretive than other states
like Indiana, but maybe some "lurkers" can come out this
year and say hello to the group.

How is everyone doing?

Are y’all headed up?
Hopefully next week
Most of our spots I've heard are not producing yet sources say it's dry, 50/50 chance of rain fri. N Saturday either way we have our cabin reservation next week

Is there anywhere to buy fresh ones?
Go into the woods and find some. It's more rewarding. ;)

Picked around 50 or so today. Central Oakland County is approaching mid-season right now. I’m finding fresh, medium-sized morels all over. Only a few big boys so far, but they were in an area that gets lots of direct sunlight.

Crazy how quiet it’s been on here lately, especially since we’re in the prime of the season…

Not much to report for me. I've been looking hard in new, and my go to areas. I've found 3. All 3 were singles too, in sunny areas. I've never seen anything like it. Hoping that we're just running late here...Kent County.

Southern MI has been good but I've been seeing how dry it has been in the north. Every year it that has been like that all the rain is in WI. Dry as a bone in the northern lower and decent rain in WI seems to be the pattern some years. WI is a farther drive but if there is more rain I'm going there this year and work towards the upper.

I’m in Oakland County and the sunny areas are pretty dry but everywhere else has good moisture and favorable conditions for morel growth…. I hope everyone on here is having good success but with the lack of reports, I’m not so sure.

Hi everyone,

Up here in Northern Michigan (north of Gaylord) the black morel season was very poor compared to the last four years (2019-2022 were all great years). The heat last week has dried up most of the few that are out there. Now I am just waiting on the whites. I have found a few babies so they are just starting. Based on all the reports south I'd like to expect a better year than the last three years (2020-2022) up here. 2019 was an incredible year. I'd like to have that again but the dryness right now does concern me. This coming weekend will tell me whether or not it is going to be decent on the whites. I'd like to do half as good as Bung.

I've been checking the precipitation and it looks like it may be worth a try from Traverse City to Mio from this weekend and on for a short time. As for WI a fellow may do well around the Black River Falls area which is quite a long drive but way closer than Rapid City, SD or Thompson Falls, MT 😂😂

The season turned out on the poor side for me. I had 9 beautiful morels in the sunshine under an old apple tree in my yard which only happens on very good years. My mom in law had 15 in her yard in Jackson. Usually she gets 2 or 3. I had great hopes for this season because we had so much rain... or so I thought but the woods didn't seem very wet. Places that had standing water last year were bone dry. Private land I have great success on gave up very little.

Apple trees saved the day but I had to share many of my shrooms with slugs. Elms did produce but not as well as I had hoped. Most of my finds were on the south side of woods. A lot of morels were stunted and warped. The diminutiva were the smallest I've ever seen. When I picked them with Wade in Indiana this year a lot of them were as big as some of the americanas.

Now it's just going to be dry and hot. It did frost last night... so there's that lol. I might go check the little state park near me. I usually do very well over there but it's hunted by many.

I might skip over the Pigeon River area and the Grand Marais area and head for the MI/WI border. I'm not ready to call it quits yet but my huge garden needs my attention too.

Michigan Morel Facebook has had a few reports from Cadillac. Young greys are being found. Should be ok the next two weekends, maybe three.

Pigeon River was a dissapointment for me for black morels but I know some reported good year. The whites would be just starting so the jury is out.

Hi all. Went out the last couple of days. Things are getting thick and full. Very dry here in Livingston Scooped up 70 or so No new fresh ones though. Pretty much done. Giving the year a B. Found around 800 or so mushrooms this year. A lot of my go to spots were 1 and 2 shrooms. Had to push pretty deep. Had a few great trees with 60 or more at them. Now it seems to be drying up. Oh well it is always a good time as you can see from todays shrooms the r a little older and dry but still yummy
