Hello fellow Michiganders and visitors from other states!
Looks like its getting to be about that time.

I know our board is a little more secretive than other states
like Indiana, but maybe some "lurkers" can come out this
year and say hello to the group.

How is everyone doing?

I just picked 4 in Clare County and they were on the verge of drying out.

Plant Terrestrial plant Groundcover Flowering plant Annual plant

False morel Branch Twig Vegetation Terrestrial plant

Only checked one tree- about 20 yards from M-59 and found a handful. The slugs and rollie-pollie’s (pill bugs) got to some of the morels pretty bad so I just chucked em to the ground and left em. I’ve had zero time the last couple days…. There’s still lots and lots of excellent quality morels out there so don’t go givin up just yet….

totally agree. I think the cold nights are keeping us in the game. I had about an hour walk two days ago and found 12 really nice Fresh ones. Still not seeing the big foots yet. I’m heading out right now though. Got about two hours to burn.

I live in Livingston county, which is lower mi, we had a B year. I found some yesterday, but was just scooping up some older ones on my property. It wasn’t to bad a year, the heat of the season was only two weeks long is all

hello from the eastern UP, lurker of many years popping in.. had blacks showing up here sporadically for the last 10 days but a couple spots really popped after friday’s rain. Found first grays about 5 days ago as well. sadly no more rain in the forecast but that can change quickly up here, fingers crossed. Finding blacks mostly right along the roads/paths this year, very little off the paths and so far zero deep into the woods. Happy hunting

Well, looking like I may be calling it a year. No miracles this year, just typical hauls.

Hi all. Went out the last couple of days. Things are getting thick and full. Very dry here in Livingston Scooped up 70 or so No new fresh ones though. Pretty much done. Giving the year a B. Found around 800 or so mushrooms this year. A lot of my go to spots were 1 and 2 shrooms. Had to push pretty deep. Had a few great trees with 60 or more at them. Now it seems to be drying up. Oh well it is always a good time as you can see from todays shrooms the r a little older and dry but still yummy

Good job Moralgirl! I used to have trees that would produce 60 or more sometimes but the ashborer has decimated them and they no longer produce even 1. So sad!

I'm in the midst of my worst year in last ten years. I should have at least two more weekends to find white morels in Northern Michigan.

I am not going to bother coming up to hunt. What a disappointment this year turned out to be. It would have been nice to meet you Glenn.

What is the host tree in the east UP? Aspen?

I’m no expert but I find tree associations to be really loose up here. But yes big tooth aspen is definitely the best one.. they don’t just pop up everywhere right underneath like with elm but there is usually an aspen in the area. The blacks up here love a bed of pine needles to pop up in. Maybe that’s a white pine association or just that the ground warms quicker and they’re easier to see. My yellow spots are all grass in Sandy soil near a roadside. Would love to hear any tips from other yoopers. Especially for finding them in the woods.

Thanks! I'm in the lower not far from the bridge and have thought about trying it up there.
I've been checking the precipitation and it looks like it may be worth a try from Traverse City to Mio from this weekend and on for a short time. As for WI a fellow may do well around the Black River Falls area which is quite a long drive but way closer than Rapid City, SD or Thompson Falls, MT 😂😂
