Hello fellow Michiganders and visitors from other states!
Looks like its getting to be about that time.

I know our board is a little more secretive than other states
like Indiana, but maybe some "lurkers" can come out this
year and say hello to the group.

How is everyone doing?

Roll your nice shrooms, big enough to hold some stuffing, in butter. Don’t be shy. Then get some onion or leaks or chives, garlic, corn and bacon. Grill bacon to crisp. Pull out. Add above ingredients and sauté, I have added shrimp, lobster or fresh walleye to this also if I have on hand. Sauté till all nicely done. Let cool then crumple bacon up and add to it. Gently stuff your butter rolled shrooms. Throw on grill and cook 10 to 15 minutes. Rolling every couple of minutes. Then chow down

You can really add anything that u like. Just have it small I like the bacon grease, it gives a nice flavor. But it can be vegan as well and taste just spiffy

That sounds yummy! It has been raining here in western SD so with some sunshine we should be finding them. I will be trying stuffed morels. Do you know if I would dry them whole, would it work to rehydrate them and stuff?
Hi friend. They have to be fresh. Sorry

Well it was a heck of a week to be a mushroom hunter! The golden oysters are going crazy in several of my morel spots! Lucky for me and my family 😊 Even got to take a newbie out for her first hunt and we hit a mini mother lode! There was about 40 or so nice big blondies under one dead elm. She was loving it, I’d say she’s pretty well hooked. We ended that hunt with a good 5-6 lbs. I’d say this about wraps it for me in most of my spots, at least for the go to spots. I’ll still do some deep woods walking, I’m sure I’ll be out til the bitter end, especially with the golden oysters doing so well. Just wanted to share some more photos of these beauties with you all. Grateful is what I am. Happy hunting everyone!

My son went to the casino on his 18th birthday and won some money. It's going to be hard to undo that.

I'm trying not to get too excited too early cuz I get burned out! LOL But it is almost April so I guess I'll be heading out looking around soon just to get the legs moving. I noticed you put OTHER as an answer for the poll. What tree would that be?

We just found a huge patch of mirrors in our backyard!! We live on the west side of Detroit in the Brightmoor neighborhood. I’m so excited right now!!!

I just moved to Lansing from upstate NY. It’s been a fun season getting to explore and hunt morels. Have run into a few fellow hunters and had some great conversations. Seems to be getting a little dry in some spots. Does the Grand River corridor get another flush/extended season if we get some more rain and/or cooler weather?
On a side note, I brought a bunch of shiitake spawn dowel plugs when we moved. I don’t have ready access to fresh oak to inoculate. I’d be willing to trade some of my spawn plugs for some freshly cut oak logs. PM me if interested.

I would think anywhere it stays cool and damp would make for a longer season. I pick Ingham and Jackson counties and have been having most luck on the south side of the woods. Not sure if it's because of the cool wet spring we had. This year has been weirder for me. Yards are producing really well but not so much deep woods. It's getting really dry and I think we got all we are going to get. As long as it doesn't rain too much we can go pick all the big dehydrated morels. Rain will just make them rot at this point. I could be wrong but that's just how it's been for me picking this area for many years.

I've been looking hard in Kent County and have only found 1!! Found a couple on the edge of the woods today in Eaton County, but in the woods, nothing! Maybe still early...I hope...
