Found a few more today in my early spot. Should be on fire in a week or two here in East Texas.
Which trees are you finding them under around Lindale (I’m assuming)? I see a few varieties of oak leaves in the picture. Im in Garden Valley with a similar leaf litter. Sandy soil here though. I’ve only found morels in hill country right next to spring fed creeks under elm and mountain cedar.View attachment 44719
I guess one is better than none. There should be more very soon!
That spot is a big oak, but I’m not sure the exact species. I mostly find them around elm trees, but also find some around large oak trees. I also check any dead tree.Which trees are you finding them under around Lindale (I’m assuming)? I see a few varieties of oak leaves in the picture. Im in Garden Valley with a similar leaf litter. Nice find! It gives me hope. Are you anywhere near the cowboy church at 69 and Hoard Rd (1804)?View attachment 44719

Still searchingYes…in a good year picking in central Texas can be great. In a bad year, experienced pickers get little or none. No idea what this year holds, but it’s time to get out there. Check out the ‘22 TX thread or maybe even earlier. You’ll be looking for cedars/junipers in limestone soil, which is different from many areas.
Very nice! Keep on trucking bro! Get it while the getting is good.View attachment 44762
Today's finds. We haven't had any rain in several days, but these popped up a day or two ago. Mostly along creek beds. Weather getting way to warm but we have rain in the forecast here in east Texas Wednesday. The motherlode is about to happen.
Congrats!!!I should have posted a picture of my finds today but I'm too lazy. Found close to 50 morels today. The rain has them coming up in most of my spots. Spotty but its about to turn up as we have 70's in the forecast the rest of the week. Found some medium to slightly large sizes. Greys and golden morels,
Doh!!! I was gonna move to Tyler. Dang it! HahahahaIm in the Tyler Texas area. Sherman should be happening now if not soon.
Yes. In the part of N central TX where I hunt, you are looking for limestone soil and junipers/cedars, tho some live oak and elm in there too. Years are very hit or miss...at least for me. I think I'll find out a lot about this year tomorrow afternoon.Look at the photo evidence our friend here gave us, in Texas it seems to be conifers. I have found lots of conifer related morels. They seem to be less consistent than the hardwoods.
