Turned out to be a pretty good day. We just got a lot of rain last night so I'm sure our spots will be exploding over the next few days.
I doubt you will find morels there. To many pine trees. For sure a good place to find chanterelles.Nice pulls! Man I’m jealous!
11 days ago I went to the big creek scenic area, part of Sam Houston nat. forest and had no luck. Did find an elm oyster and some polypore type but no morels. Seems a bit too far south of their range but figured it was worth a try.
Have there been confirmed finds in San Houston forests? I understand the chants are common there so will have to try for those when the season comes with my snake boots on!
Not sure but definitely not old man of the woods.Another six miles down, and not one morel found. I did find alot of these. Any idea what they are? View attachment 44900

That there information is the key to east Texas morels! Here in East Texas morels hate the pines. Just look near cedar/junipers in bottoms. Also look around elms and older oaks.

From one of my spots near Lake Whitney this morning. I checked this same spot 6 days ago and there was nothing. These youngens got frostbit last night.
The season is still early, even in Central Texas. Some of my reliable spots are not up yet as far south as Waco. Don't fret if you haven't found anything yet! We are still a week, maybe two away from peak, as long as temps stay moderate and we get some moisture.
I'm about ready to give up in Temple, Belton Area. Nice finds thoughSome steady picking over the last week but still mostly youngsters and haven’t found a mature yellow yet. N central TX. The cold shocked a bunch I’d been leaving to grow. Hopeful the peak is still to come
I live just East of Tyler TexasWhat region are you in Mushroom Geologist? I'm in Central Texas, nothing so far but heading out again this afternoon!
