Thought I'd get this started. Quickly approaching fellow shroomers. Can't wait for the first signs and to see all your finds [email protected]

I'll be 25 miles south of Rochester the week of 24 April and the first week of June. I'm hoping to hunt morels while I'm there!

It's been hot and dry in the Hudson Valley, I'll check my spots soon but I'm expecting a very small harvest this year.
Is it worth checking some areas that are usually too swampy to produce?
Swampy may be a stretch. Wet ground that is permeable, yes. Methinks morels don't like greasy soil. It has been said that morels love water but don't like wet feet.

I see on Facebook they have been found in Onondaga, Madison, Orange, and Dutchess counties.

That surprises me. Must be people raking back the leaves on PG?
I heard as well. Checked one of my trees. Still nothing. But things starting to look and feel biut right. Maybe if we get this rain they'll start popping
I'm starting to hear the drone of lawnmowers so we are getting near. Still a bit early for me.

I see Ulster, Otsego, and St. Lawrence Counties have them as well. On my way in to work I saw plenty of landscaping crews mowing in the Albany area. For some reason the Capital Region seems to be last in NY, even to our neighbors up north.
There is no telling how these hot spikes of temperature will progress the season. I might casually check my early spot but don't expect to see much. Stay tuned.
Only receipt I had, my blacks are just starting

Those are from NY state? What county? They look mature? Lucky you, good find!
Yes rochester area, I’ve found them in several counties in western ny, they have to be in most counties. People don’t look early enough to find them generally. They are in a lot of different habitats. But I’ve found them in areas that later you will find yellows.

Thanks for the reply. I don't find Blacks. I think its habitat but it could very easily be me. I am happy that NY is on the board!
