At this point of the season morels are generally easier to see due to size and coloring. But there are plenty of exceptions. That being said it is a good time to look, for those of you frustrated by early season disappointments. For those who had better luck it is an opportune time to find new ground (NG).

Hobler, Another great score! I see that some of those morels are starting to dry out a bit, it's the same here. Could use some rain.

Yes Geo. They are starting to dry we have 75 % chance tonight so hopefully it will and keep them around a little bit longer

Finally a little luck! I decided to go out one last time and call it quits for the season. After searching for a half hour our so, I did find one (and only one) yellow at the top of the hill. Discouraged, but I figured I may have some PG for next season. On the drive down the hill, I pulled over to try one more spot that looked promising. Lo and behold, I found a small patch of tiny Greys? maybe?
A dozen or so smaller than my pinky, but ready to pop. Had to get down on all fours to see a few of them! Maybe this is the start of the season here in Chenango County?

Not sure when I should go back and pick these. Been hot and no rain here for a week, doesn't look like much rain is coming in the near future, thoughts? Are they worth picking that small, not sure if the dry and heat will burn them out/ruin them.
