Well it is definitely that time of year again. Damp or dry, hot or cold, rain or shine...my father and I will be loading up the dogs and heading to KY for a week of mushroom hunting goodness. Last year sucked but the year before that we dragged some major tonnage out of the woods. So, what will this year yield? Who knows but who cares...it's a week of wondering in the wood with my old man, who often reminds me that it's called, "mushroom hunting not mushroom finding."

Regardless, if we get into them (I know it's cold and I know it's early) I'll be sure to post some pics for your viewing pleasure and scrutiny. Oh and while I have your attention, make a difference and take a kid with you this year. Happy hunting all!!

The finds are few and far between right now and they are only very small blacks. The season will start in earnest next week if the current long term forecast holds. I know a week in the woods would be wonderful but if you're wanting to pick you better wait a week.

Yeah I hear you. The first week of April is our annual window of opportunity. Besides, we almost always do well up here in Indiana mid April. So should we get skunked, there's always that. The hunt must go on!

I'm going to wait until next weekend and be hitting Daniel Boone national forest and Mammouth Cave area. Looks like more rain will have fallen by then and the temps are looking better in the forecast. Blacks might be alot bigger and just about over just have to wait and see.
