Anyone else feel morels will come early this yr 2023

Since last summer I noticed a lot of herbs and mushrooms bloomed earlier than normal, starting with the goldenrod. I even found a lions mane much sooner than normal~ makes me wander if morels will come early. All this rain, butter cups already sprouting here in North Alabama. Thoughts~

Very quick, but we are in a good place to have an extended season because temps will be stable in the 70鈥檚 with some rain coming
Checked my 2 best early spots today, Bham metro. . Did not see any morels. These 2 spots are 1/3rd acre and 1/10th acre. They have produced my first finds 8 yrs running. Each spot has 10-12 specific areas that produce.. im noticing the ground is warming, but very slowly due to our wonderful ground moisture. While that could push the season just a bit from starting, its a good thing. Hey, you cant fix dry. Were not close to any dryness and have Thurs/Fri rain of 1.5鈥 to 2.0鈥. Will check again Friday morning. Will update with my probable first finds Fri (3rd) or Mon (6th). Im 85% on that, but you never know for sure until you see that firsty鈥.
That is some Very through Observations and information.. Thank You for Reporting this for Everyone

Are you kidding me? Ive checked all the early spots I have for 9-10 days and located 5 morels.. A neighbor who works heating & air brings me this he found in woods just off the guys back yard, in woods leading 60 ft to a creek at 6:00p local time 鈥. We are 25 yrs a neighbor and I鈥檝e fed him morels a couple dozen times over the years, and told him if you see them call me or pick them.. Well I am going in the morning with full premision to hunt the area out. Nice looking fresh, and its probably got 15 plus or minus days left in metro Bham. The longer you hunt morels, you gain almost unbelievable stories to both the upside & the downside View attachment 44773

Thoughts on timing for metro Bham. Found 3 fresh greys today at a faithful spot. They were 1.5鈥 caps. Good sign we have some legs left to the season. With the moderate temperatures forecast and the great moisture we have Im guessing we have 10-15 days left for fruiting. But as stated, that is my guess, the morels don't always follow my guesses..

Latest thoughts on metro Bham timing. If we have a moderate or even a really good flush it will likely be in the March 22-30 range. There are some out and a few here and there may be fruiting the next few days. I couldn鈥檛 tell you if this year will be a 2,5 or 9, or anything in between. I just have a strong sense based on where we are, history and the forecast that any throw down would be those last 7-8 days of the month here around Bham鈥
That's Some Good Reporting Thank You
