When you find your 1st ones you should always take a hard look at them and try to figure out how long they have been exposed the tell tail sign is usually the color will be more yellow and the pores will be much more open you can't always go by the height of the stalk. On a good year they grow slow and get tall and turn yellow later But on a rougher earlier year they won't get quite as big but will turn yellow very quickly and spore out. Also keep an eye out for a new growth of baby morels while you are picking this 1st round. Happy hunts folks 😃

Are you kidding me? Ive checked all the early spots I have for 9-10 days and located 5 morels.. A neighbor who works heating & air brings me this he found in woods just off the guys back yard, in woods leading 60 ft to a creek at 6:00p local time …. We are 25 yrs a neighbor and I’ve fed him morels a couple dozen times over the years, and told him if you see them call me or pick them.. Well I am going in the morning with full premision to hunt the area out. Nice looking fresh, and its probably got 15 plus or minus days left in metro Bham. The longer you hunt morels, you gain almost unbelievable stories to both the upside & the downside

🍄The Mystery Will Always Be🍄
and it is a Large part of Our Love and Fascination with Morels..🍄
Therefore; as I try to make since of Morel Season beginning and the Progression,
I can except if I draw a wrong conclusion...
Even more; perhaps Every conclusion is inaccurate and remain inconclusive..
Because We just don't have All the information, Only a few of the Pieces..It's Mother Nature ..
and "The Mystery Will Always Be"
🍄🔮 So here is my Guess, from reports thus far..it seems like we have some Morels up about a week Early, and Some Not up Early, but are showing up in a normal date and time...
🌧🐢 What do Yall Say ALABAMA and Other States ..What's it turning Out to be in 2023🔮🌠
Whatever it is, We Always...

You all might have a nice long season down there. The next 14 to 21 days are going to be below average temps for most of the country the way it looks. Sucks for us up north, looks like a long winter probably in Souther Wisconsin we are getting 4 to 8 inches of snow tomorrow night Lol

Thoughts on timing for metro Bham. Found 3 fresh greys today at a faithful spot. They were 1.5” caps. Good sign we have some legs left to the season. With the moderate temperatures forecast and the great moisture we have Im guessing we have 10-15 days left for fruiting. But as stated, that is my guess, the morels don't always follow my guesses..
