We found about 8lbs in the Caldor burn area. The forest really took a beating. The forest department is clearing a lot of burnt trees, in the long run makes a healthy forest.

Congratulations!! My husband and I also hunt morels in the El Dorado county area. We usually go to the same spots but tried burn areas this year in the Caldor fire area. We didn’t have any luck. Do you happen to have any information/educational information about how to find mushrooms in burn areas? thank you, Lisa

Our winter precipitation was less than normal, I look for shaded north facing near small creeks. The creeks are drying fast, but that is the best bet. Due to rising temp’s and no snow melt, you can’t find where there isn’t some tree canopy…. So in the Caldor fire burn area there is area’s that are not favorable. But at 7500’-8000’ you can find moist areas for a few more weeks. Happy hunting!!

Oh, this was in the El Dorado National forest past Kyburz….. you could go to Sierra at Tahoe resort and work the burn down slope.
