Hunting for hens

I have been out hunting after the recent rains. There is lot of fungus fruiting, but I am finding hard to find hens. Berkekeys polypore seems to be very commonon large oaks, and I am wondering if this is a soil pH thing. Most of the areas I search are on limestone, high pH bedrock areas. So, as an experiment, I am driving tomorrow to an area with acidic soils on ingneous and metamorphic bedrock to see if it makes much of a difference.
