MorelMargaret, I'm in your neck of the woods as well (Iowa City)....my guess is.we're at least 10-14 days out yet based on this week's weather forecast. We need those 3-4 consecutive 70 degrees to get our ground temps up. IF this moisture keeps up we could have a good season if our temps hold!!!!!!
Im not an expert on weather conditions effecting morels but please answer this! Des moines has got alot of rain lately. Will And no forecast for sun anytime soon it seems... will all this cloudy rainy weather go on to long where our morels wont even bother popping up?
Well did some snooping around nieghboring state. Missuori guy found around a hundred near Northland. Normally we about a week behind missouri. Going to start looking sunday and everyday after. I'm in clinton, ia. Will post if any finds are made. Please be careful Ticks might be bad this year. ]
Went out just now. Nothing at the super spot I had last year. A spot is usually good 2 or 3 years. The Dutchman's Britches (flower) leaves are up, no flowers yet. That's always been an indicator. Think the may apples (another plant usually out beginning of May) are just poking up to unroll. Maybe this weekend. Can't wait! Supposed to get in the 70's end of week.
I'm hoping they start popping around here (CR) or at least nearby pretty soon. Gotta have surgery on the left shoulder in May and don't wanna have to have help LOL. Would like to have someone to hunt with, my spots & yours. Or new one?
ive been out the last two days in dixon ill..and havent seen a thing.. dixon is straight east from the iowa city and cr area...i think these 70 degree days though this weeknd will help and theyll be poppin in the middle of next week or hopefully by sunday
