Oneida County, Valley of the Mohawk. Leeks are up! Harvest next weekend. Cast iron pan, oil, a fire in the woods, that's living! Enjoy the hunt!

Checked one ramp spot I know about, not the one where I do my gathering. It's warmer. Where I do my gathering is in a cold sink down in a creek bottom. The "warm spot" ramps were up about as long as my index finger. They have a little way to go yet.

Have any experience with Marsh Marigold?

First ones popping up in Saratoga County
I recently heard of a recipe for a ramp/leek pesto for pasta that I want to try this season. You use the leaf rather than the bulb.
All the time! Actually make a pesto from ramp. I sauté bulbs. Use ricotta and fresh motz. Sun-dried tomatoes, venison sausage and the sautéed bulbs to make a pizza. All fresh from the property. If I’m lucky I get the morels and add them too!!!!
Good luck and enjoy!

Yikes! That looks yummy.
Hi all! I have a little frozen ramp pesto left from last year, but not sure it's still okay to eat. Anyway, it's wonderful to have fresh ramps again! My tiny backyard patch has spread again, and I've added a small handful of new plants. Trying to slowly combat a massive lily of the valley invasion, wish me luck!!

I also added a couple of mayapples to my mini patch, and have been enjoying eating my hosta shoots and new leaves. My mood has improved considerably with the arrival of Spring. I hope you're all well!

Thank you so much! Two hours out today, and I finally positively identified ostrich ferns and brought home four fiddleheads to sample for the first time. :)

I learned about eating hosta from this page: Hosta Shoots , after failed attempts at growing asparagus or finding any reliably, then going on a research rampage. We have so many in our garden, and I was excited! 😂 I really enjoy the shoots pan-seared so they brown and also stay crunchy, but the young leaves are mild and nice raw too.
