Now that morels are starting to pop in southern Wisconsin, I thought it might be a good time to share my Youtube video as a refresher to get our eyes focused and motivate us. "Go for the Gold! 14 Lbs," was my last hunt in SW Wisconsin in late April, 2012 (remember spring was 2-3 weeks early). Please pardon my focus on dead elms; it's just that I do so much better under dead elms, when I can find them, as do many others, and I want to share the good news. Newbies wanting to see more dead elms may want to check out my "How to Identify Dead Elms." Almost all the photos and vids in my "Morel Mushrooms -- Through the Years" video were taken on Wisconsin hunts. Good luck and God bless!

Actionjakson, Thanks. The apple trees that I have found morels under were dead. I have found shrooms under some kind of evergreen tree, but don't know if it was cedar, pine or what. There were also dead elms in among those trees, so I wasn't sure what was producing them. I thought the evergreens were helping because I found some where there were no dead elms close by.

Chad, Thanks. I hope your finding some nice morels, and this cooler weather isn't hurting. Good luck!

Your video was great! We don't have a lot of elms where we are (looking), but we have had the same bountiful luck around dead or dying oaks! Sometimes in odd places like rock clusters and on the perimeter of pine forests. What beautiful specimens you demonstrated. Thanks for that. We will also start using your type of bags (we know they're great for spore distribution, but haven't used them in the past thinking we'd bang the shrooms around too much!) Maybe that's the point!

Lovetohuntfungi,

Thanks. Congrats on doing well around dying oaks. I used to have one area that I did super under oaks, but not much since. You can get the mesh bags economically at Wal-Mart. Get the 14 in. x 16 in. lingerie laundering bags. They work great. A few days ago I uploaded on Youtube the highlights of my 30+ years shrooming, "Through the Years." Here is the link if you're interested: http://youtu.be/ToHiaKgIRw8 Good luck and God bless!
