Finally got out on Wednesday and quickly realized that I was way too late. First I checked the "leaned over apple tree" spot where I found a ton last year. Unfortunately the tree is now completely dead and I found nothing anywhere in the area. So, on to the "cottonwood" spot. Nothing there either, not even a stump. Next was the "sycamore" spot, and I did manage to find about a dozen of the late season, bigfoot yellows. I left one that was over the hill, and another was just average size, and I suspect it was a fresh pop that could have grown into one of the biggies. We're expecting rain tonight into tomorrow, so I think I might give it one last hurrah at the sycamore spot and call it a season.
Anyone think we can get a late season flusH pop with the temps cooling down over the next week?

Your Equation makes since, I say yes there should be some somewhere that will pop from the cool down and Rain 🌧

Kokomorel - Thanks for your prompting comment.
I've often expressed to unknowledgeable people that I "HUNT" for Morels, I "PICK" Chantereles and I "FORAGE" for other mushrooms.
And regardless of the above distinction - I'm blessed every time I get into the woods!
Treat yourself to some time in the woods.

^^^^^^^^ This! Well, kinda sorta. My morel spots are fairly dependable, but I'm afraid one of them has gone to the big mushroom patch in the sky! The distressed apple tree that the morels were associated with died completely over the Winter, and there was nothing happening there this year. I'll have another look at it next year, but I don't hold out a lot of hope. So, the hunt for another spot will be on.

I've found a very reliable Chant spot. Enough so that I can afford to be picky. I only pick enough for a few meals at a time since I found out that dehydrating them doesn't work very well. But, i won't be finding much of anything if we don't start getting some doggone rain!

Normally I would figure that the heat we have in the forecast would bring the Chants up. But without rain I don't know. We've had 7 or 8 straight days of no rain, while sitting under a dome of very dry air. I figure the situation in Indiana is much the same. Of the last two "rain events " that were forecast, one didn't happen at all and the other was barely enough to settle the dust! And there is no rain in the forecast for about the next ten days. We went from a rainfall surplus to a rainfall deficit very quickly.
