My wife & I found 11 really small blacks on 4/5 & 4/6 in a couple of patches. We left those to grow and I went back on 4/11 and found 62 blacks and 1 half free in the same patches and the ones we left to grow the week before had barely grown and a couple had actually shriveled to almost nothing. We went back into the same patches on 4/12 and found 39 more blacks and my 1st grey of the season. The blacks on 4/11-4/12 were mostly 1-3". Well I went back into those patches this afternoon 4/14 and found 58 blacks that were considerably larger in size on average. A few were 4-5". They appear to be growing well with the weekend heat. Also found 3 more half frees and another tiny grey. 2 of the black were almost too mature. All of these were in the Mammoth Cave area on private land. This week should be the week to find the larger blacks if we don't get a hard freeze. Good luck to everyone

Mewsome, I hope that am wrong but I think it may severely damage any that are above ground level. I have seen frost bitten morels that would show some ills effects from the light frost but a hard freeze is altogether different. I tried to pick my known patches the past 2 days in the event that we have a hard freeze. Found 40 really nice blacks in Jefferson county today. A few were 4-5" tall and still very fresh. Found 1 that was too far along to pick.

I have had no luck yet I live in south central KY next to Mammoth cave been going up in there.
I seen some shroomers up there they haven't found any yet. After this frost I'm going back up in there.
    hope to find some then.

Picked 62 today from patches that we have been picking in Hart county since 4/5 and I'm surprised that they are still producing fresh blacks. 46 blacks of various sizes, 7 small 1" gray/yellows & 9 half frees.

Was back in Hart county Sat/Sun and found 167. Was able to find 10 blacks that were still pickable but very mature. 1 was under a log out of the sun and was very large and still fresh. The little yellow/grays/white were popping all over the east and North facing hillsides where I have found them before. Picked 143 of them and had to leave early today leaving a few patches lightly picked. Also found 14 big yellows mostly in 1 patch along a small creek. This coming week should be excellent picking. Most all of the yellows were very fresh.

Found 96 Friday & 1 yesterday in Hart county. Most of these were very fresh deliciousas (1-3" tall). I did find 1 big yellow. Hunted the same patches that I picked last weekend just more thoroughly this time. The 1 that I found Sat was whole turkey hunting and just stumbled upon it while scouting a different area of the farm. This will be the last week of shrooms in this area.
