I am looking forward to the hunt. I have been out some and the draws are full of snow. If it gradually warms up we should have a great season. God luck and enjoy the hunt.

Yes I am very excited myself!! As long as the steady moisture continues as it has, we should hopefully have an amazing season. Also if Temps don't warm up too much too quickly.
For those who have not joined yet or those interested, I have created a Facebook group called South Dakota Morels. It has blown up in the last year or so and has a lot more people than I ever expected. So if there is any interest, feel free to join and post your finds and information on there as well!

Don't give up the Secrets of the Black Hills. We are not that big and already the hills are being trampled by 4 wheelers from out of state going everywhere, making their own trials. Loose lips sink ships, and facebook is garbage

I understand that but I'm not giving locations as to where to hunt. It's no different than posting information on here honestly. I am actually part of a Jeep Club that focuses on Tread Lightly principles and preach about staying on trail not making your own. I agree that there are numerous people not only from out of state but also even some locals that decide they can go wherever they want in their offroad vehicles whether it be side by sides or 4 wheelers or even full size vehicles such as Jeeps or trucks. I do not condone it and I always speak up when I see it in person. With that being said, Facebook is not the problem. The problem is the uneducated, under-educated, or just plain ignorant people. The more people go off trails, the more trails will be shut down. Going around the obstacles on trails also, will have trails shut down because you are making the trail wider than it was intended to be and in turn, damaging the wildlife and wilderness surrounding said trail. I could preach about this all day but that is not what this forum is for. It is for morels. With all this being said, Facebook isn't the problem. So yes, I will continue to accept people into my Facebook page as it is for all of South Dakota not just the Black Hills just as this forum is. The Facebook page was created in order to promote education, not only on where you can possibly find them, but also being smart and responsible on your way to go find them whether that be by foot or trail or both. Either way, no matter what I do or say, there will always be people that agree and disagree with everything I say so I'm going to leave it at that. You're entitled to your own opinion as well as myself. As always, stay safe and happy hunting.

Has anyone had any luck this year yet? I haven't had a chance to get out and look since we just moved and been super busy. Any idea what the Temps in the hills are averaging?
No luck yet, but this bit of rain in the last couple of days should spur things on.

I am located just south of Sioux Falls in Canton.
I have been out a few times but nothing but sheds so far. Here by RC it is dry, have to go down two inches to get moisture. Let it rain or snow as that would soak in!

Here in RC it drizzled this am, .15 inches. And this evening it is drizzling again. 😃

Found 3 morels in one of my spots around 4,000 elevation in the northern hills. Very fresh and kinda small. Will be checking again later this week and should be popping them too. Found a lot of the "false" morels that are red that were super fresh. All good signs.
