    . . . this is not limited to Ohio . . . obviously . . .

I'm wondering how many years it took for the tree growth to over-grow the chain/cable that tied this bicycle to a tree - central OH.

Oh, yea . . . we found 8-10 Morels this day on Public-State land

Zen Art -- or, maybe it had some other mechanical purpose back then . . . when it was done?!

Wow wow wow I can’t thank you enough for finding my bike ...... it seems like yesterday I fastened it to that tree in hope that it would be safe ..... I still have the front wheel .... what I can’t see in the photo is the Ty Cobe , Babe Ruth baseball cards that were attached by close pins to the fender so they rubbed against the spokes.....I guess they may have fell off..... love this..... thanks....

    Thanks for the humor redfred.

    Well . . . ok . . . here's another one.

Probably 20-30 (?) years ago, this outdoor, open air bath made quite an accessory to a pretty cool camp site.
    2015-5-(May)-10 032.jpg
The pvc pipe on the left runs to a concreted spring/cistern in the foreground below, that held and fed water to the bathtub.

A good sized blowdown just grazed the back right corner.

I somehow think this old campsite has lots of stories to tell!

I saw this while hunting hens in central Pa. Its on a large red oak tree. I have seen many burls but nothing as big as this and it completely surrounds the tree. I posted it last fall on the Pa thread last fall. IMG_3778.JPG

What would you think you found if you spotted a duffel bag hidden inside a hollow tree in the middle of a 50 acre woods?

I started imagining maybe someone hid something of value - like _________. Ok, I was thinking bank robbery money, ha ha.
    2015-12-(Dec)-28 004.jpg
If you look close you can see the grey color of material inside the hollow to the upper right of the trowel.

While scouting for late Maitake Mushrooms in Dec of 2015 I noted the inappropriate color in the hollow of the tree, realized it was a duffel bag and came back later with a trowel to dig it out, as it was too big to get through the opening. The opening had grown smaller over (maybe) 4-8 years since it had been placed there and lots of decayed wood from the inside of the hollow tree had fallen down inside to further close the opening.

    2015-12-(Dec)-28 005.jpg
    2015-12-(Dec)-28 007.jpg

With digging pulling, folding and fighting, I finally got the duffle bag out of the hollow in the tree . . .and . . .
    Nothing!! . . . It was empty!

    What can I say . . . ? . . .

    Any ideas?

I can only imagine what a woodworker might create with such a magnificent huge wood burl. I always admire them when I see them displayed by the artists who create bowls from wood burls such as this (but always smaller!!).
    Neat find!

Try this search: caleb & Ruth Clard Madison County 1846-1926
I did one more level of drill-down and it is a good story.
    Thanks for sharing.

It was merely coincidence that I happened to buy a Porsche during December of 2015 with all cash.

. . . it's also coincidence that I sometimes refer to a whole category of various woods as "Sherwood Forest" and also "The King's Land"

    ckorte - cool pic.

In Vinton County, OH woods I found a patch of 12-15 youngish saplings wrapped by vines and it was magical: different widths, different heights of vine induced spiraling. They were too big for me to take one for a walking stick. This was before I started always carrying a digital camera. Don't know what type of tree sapling or type of vine.
