I've been wanting to look, but I've never looked for them... Do they grow well in IA? What's the best tactics for finding them? I have found Chicken of the Woods the past couple years but have not been in the woods since late May.
Hi Phillip, my first year looking for different mushrooms besides morels. Found a King Bolete, coral mushroom, and some other Boletes I am not sure of. Black trumpets by white oak, you should have that in Iowa, in fact a lot of mushrooms, Chanterelles, Hedgehog, lobsters by white oak. They should be coming out right now
Went out Sunday evening in NE IA for a few hours and only found mosquitos. Found some bleach white crown corals and probably 3-4 other species I could not identify. Some red almost looked like chants but the gills stopped at the top of the stem. Also found a cluster of mushrooms growing on some dead firewood... Kind of see-thru white colored and rubbery looking.. not sure what that would be... Checked quite a few Oaks, no chickens.
