Long-time hunter here. This is the third year I've been in TX for the morel season. No luck at all in TX yet. I'll be heading up home to KC in a few weeks to my normal spots. If anyone wants to team up, I'm just west of DFW. I'll be hunting OK, KS, MO and possibly others in the coming weeks/months. Send me a PM.

MorelTrail...though I've worked in IT before, for some reason I can't figure out how to send a PM here. (Maybe that feature no longer exists?!) Regardless, I'm interested and have quite a bit of free time. Drop me an email to ben at benstarr d0t c0m and I'll introduce myself.

found about 40 in 3 hours today, one of which was the largest I have ever found in North Texas. I am trying to get the pictures off of my phone and will post them soon.

Thanks guys! I am excited after the heavy rains we had yesterday. Planning on heading out today for a bit and then Saturday, after coaching some little league baseball, the whole family will get out for a look see. I love hunting and finding them but nothing beats watching my son and daughters eyes light up once they start finding them. Hell even my wife who hates mushrooms loves to hit the woods to look for them. Good Luck Guys!!!

I spent 4 hours near Texoma yesterday poking around elms and junipers, living and dead, in very wet conditions in a variety of terrain (uplands, bottomlands, slopes and flats) and didn't find a dern thing. Skunked again. But enjoyed watching some stunning storms popping all around, and even saw a tornado from a distance. It's so funny, in Arkansas, I can't help but stumble across morels in season even when I'm not looking for them, and I have yet to find a single one in Texas. I'll be out again this weekend, fingers crossed!

I keep my boat out on Lake Texoma but have never had much luck finding Morels out there, My father in law has some property about a mile from the lake and we have found a handful over the years, but nothing to get me too excited. Went out for a couple hours today and found these 4 guys. Super fresh Yellows!!! hope they will be up in force by next week <a href="[IMG]"><img src="

a friend of mine found 1.6 lbs in Greyson county yesterday. I live in Walker county and wondered if I can find them around here. I am from Michigan...been hunting since before I was born :p The Wallstreet Journal wanted to do a story on my dad. I have been in Texas almost 5 years and never found one. What are good places to look around here? When is the season in Texas?

Spent the day in Hopkins County with a friend who owns 20 acres out there, and he regularly gets greys in the spring. We searched living and dead elms, sycamore, and cedar/juniper, as well as mayapple flushes. Not a morel to be found, though the elms had all been rooted heavily by the wild hogs that infest his property. All gone to the pigs! Back in north Texas/Oklahoma next week.

We had a nice soaking rain west of Fort Worth today. I've been looking up by Decatur this year, but nothing yet. Hope you guys are having better luck. =)

bearden 22, totally different in Texas. Usually to dry to produce much. Use the NWS to figure out where the rain has been then stick to,maple, ash, cottonwood on rivers, and according to the guy's video on this Texas site, the Cedars in the Hill country. Inconsistant rain is going to be your big problem I live in Mo. we had folks driving down there picking morels next to cactus a couple of years ago when the rains where right. During the bad drought over the last few years many of the trees along steams and rivers have died, if they are cottonwood they should be good unless it's to dry. Don't know my Texas counties so I don't even know where you live in Texas.

The rain kept me out of the woods over the weekend but I went out for a couple hours this morning and found 50 fresh yellows. With the gradual warm up over this week I think the season will peak late this week and over the weekend. Good luck everyone.

    Hey Derrek,

New to DFW this season and getting skunked so far. Have been mostly East and South so far. Would love tips or advice on the right conditions to look for as I start looking north of Dallas. [email protected]

    Good Luck!
