My brother and I are gonna check some logged areas up at 5000 ft. Was scouting that area 01/12 and I noticed pockets of parked cars in a few places. Was wondering what they would be doing. Mushrooming? What snow there was is mostly gone and it had been in the 60s - 70s for a long stretch so why not? Been raining up there for three days and nights straight now so we are heading up Saturday to see what we can see. Never been before in Ca. I am from Illinois and we make a mushrooming trek back home each spring. Would be nice to find them out here. Will post our findings (or not) here.

The 3 days of rain in the mountains turned into snow! We were wading in 6 inches in many places. Other places, with west facing slopes, had large open areas and we did find a few boletes, but no morels.... too early, but I have to wonder if anyone found any 3 weeks ago after 2 couple of weeks of 70+ temps up there. Maybe too late!

I saw on another site that there was a Morel(s) found near L.A. California on February 13... Somebody out there get to work and let me see a pic of a 2014 United States Morel pleaseeee!!

I was thinking about checking out that burn area around Yosemite either late April or early May. Huge area to explore.
