Hey folks! My mother in law lives in Naubinway in the UP and wants to learn about mushroom hunting (more than just morels).

Are there any clubs or groups in the UP she can get involved in? Something that has classes and forays?

If anyone knows of any groups can you send me some contact information for them?

    Thanks in advance!

I recently moved to Keweenaw Peninsula and was fortunate to met with staff from the US Forest Service at their office on Michigan Tech campus. They have an impressive staff of PhD mycologists that do field research as well as lectures in cooperation with MTU.
I am guessing introductory mycology classes are available through the university that would get you started.
I am looking to volunteer for the USFS in a small capacity doing field study.
Did you know that fungi are more closely related to animals than plants?
I believe that fungi are/will play a critical role in the reduction of Earth's pollutions and toxins.
So Ceara, if you find any good fungi in my peninsula, let me know? Thanks
