I found two small hen of the woods yesterday in Lewis county. However, I recommend you expand your search. I found four large lions mane. It was an unexpected treat. They seemed to be everywhere. Also, I found six giant puffballs.

Anyone in WV been out walking the woods yet? I know we got some good snowfall today and have a decent amount of precip forecasted in the next 10-15 days. I'll be out this weekend surveying my hunting spots, looking at growth and if there are any new trees that were downed this past summer/fall. March 24-29 is forecasted in the mid to high 50's with a few mid 50's days March 15-25 scattered in.

Getting extremely antsy.

Ready for morel season to start. I'm getting antsy too. The morels that I dried last year are gone. Has anyone seen anything yet?

Ground temps were pretty warm around the moss and rocks...

Was out in Lewis county yesterday for about 1-1/2 hours nothing. Really no greening of any kind yet no fiddleheads greenbriar leaves just developing, hopefully warmer weather this week.

just saw the 30 day outlook for Ohio valley \Mid Atlantic region!...(normal to above normal temps in April)..as long as we get normal rainfall amounts (5-6"), this should be a good morel season, especially 3rd week of April thru mid May!..i can see many, Turkey hunting in the mornings, and mushrooming in the afternoons..it'll be here, just gotta stay patient, and positive.

Anyone been out at all? I found some gyromitra and scarlet cups last Friday and I've heard some reports of a few morels being found in Southern WV. The ramps are up aboue 4-5" in my area, mayapples aren't up yet. The weather for this weekend and next week looks good. The hopeful part of me thinks it will be mid next week, but the realist in me knows it will likely be the 3rd week in April before it heats up. Regardless, I've been really happy with the weather so far.

I feel the same way Jen. I've been following the progression on all the sites and have been comparing notes from the last few years and definitely think this year has potential. I'm here in Harrison County and my ramp patch is up about 4-5" but our mayapples aren't poking through yet?

The 5 day forecast looks awesome, I mean it really couldn't get better. The temps are supposed to be warmer but not hot, and its calling for rain here over night this weekend. Next week its supposed to really warm up in the 70's and 50's. I'll keep doing the walk around my honey holes. I hate stomping around when I know its too early.

The wait is killing me. The only good thing about it is watching all this precipitation falling in WV. We're 6 days into February and already above the average monthly precipitation in NCWV.

4.26" of precipitation in February and still a few days to go. Lots of thaw and freezing may make for horrible roads here in NCWV, but its letting that precip soak down deep. They're getting closer.....

Found a bunch of false morels tonite in NC WV. Scarlet cups and Devils Urns out too. I think were a lot further along tuck the trees and flowers look. Soil temps were 47-50 in most places. Good sign. Should be in them by mid April here in WV

Here's a useful website that has fact sheets for every type of tree/shrub. You can search by region, state, family, genus, or species.

MBD, where at in NC WV are you at? I have been out twice and seen scarlet cups everywhere. I agree with your prediction and feel that we should be seeing some popping in the next week. Weather looks great and the temperature looks even better. I say let it rain for the rest of the day and some of tomorrow.
