Most likely 3-4 weeks until the first Wyoming morels! Need rain.
Hi there! I'm new to the Cody area. Do you have any idea of morels in this, or the Yellowstone area? I am originally from Illinois near the Indiana border. We were always able to find something there with little effort but I'm not sure about here. Any information is appreciated.
Julie: Very few yellows late May near cottonwood downstream towards Powell. June focus on area W/NW of town especially around Ponderosa Pine and any burn sites for black morels - these will be your primary morels. We've had little luck on Lodgepole Pine or your many spruce species. Park rangers are weird on harvest or taking anything so be discrete in jellystone where black morels can go well into July.
Is there a good place to find them in or around Laramie?
Pile of Oyster mushrooms on Boxelder and Aspen near Cement Ridge fire lookout north of Moskee. No morels there.
