I found my first ever black morel today north of Columbus, but I think it got stepped on by a turkey. I didn’t find any others around, but I will go back to this spot when it warms up more. I found it in an area with black cherry, dead ash, elms and maples in an area that was getting lots of light. I think it was associating with the black cherry which is a tree I have been keeping my eye out for blacks.

Looks like a half frees to me

Well, after two decent, dry and sunny days, I finally was able to get the grass cut before the yard turned into an absolute hayfield! If it's not pouring down rain tomorrow I have a spot in mind to go have a look at. It's a south facing slope above a creek bottom. I've never found a morel up here this early, but I just want to get out. Besides, I already know that creek bottom has ramps in it, so I should come home with something.

Glad to see some finding going on here. Up here in the frozen tundra of NE Ohio, it seems like we are finally coming out of our Winter funk, although we had another night with sub freezing temps! It actually got into the mid 60's today, so I used it to recut my backyard which was still looking shaggy after cutting it three days ago, and taking care of the next door neighbor lady's back yard, which is always a chore on the first cut of the year!

She has two enormous maple trees back there, and those trashy things always fill the yard with branches! I think I'd be in favor of ordinances forbidding the planting of maples in residential areas! I worked my butt off today! But that means I'll be free tomorrow, and have picked a new spot to go check out. A south facing slope above a creek bottom.

Skunked in hocking county today, in spots that we've picked em by the pound for alot of years...last year was one of my worst seasons ever, this ones headed in the same direction, idk
Ive always claimed that if it warms up too early in march, then turns cold, as it inevitably will, it makes for an off season.
We'll see what happens by the end of this week.

Southern Ohio (New Richmond).. finally found one tiny Morel yesterday.. I left it. I have hunted my known, reliable areas every day for the last nine days.. I’m confused cause in the last 5 years I would have found at least 30 by now. It seems plenty moist and warm, but I’m hoping the rain will come tonight. This will either be the latest season ever, or.. Armageddon :). I’ve hunted my yard like this for 20 years.. the spots are so close I can check daily easily
